Male Youth Charged with 5 Counts of Theft

An 18-year old youth will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested by City Police last evening. It is alleged that on June 12th 2005 the accused entered 4 vehicles in the Woodlawn-Willowdale area, including breaking the windows of 2 of the vehicles, and removing items such as speakers, a purse and contents, change, and CD’s. At the time of the offences the accused was also on probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The youth has been charged with 5 counts of theft under $5,000, 2 counts of mischief under $5,000 and 2 counts of breach of probation. Due to the YCJA charged the name of the 18-year old cannot be released.


Male Charged with Threatening to Cause Death

A 29-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just after 1 am this morning in relation to a domestic dispute. Officers attended at a downtown address and spoke to the ex-girlfriend of the accused and learned that the accused threatened to kill her. At the time of the offence the accused was on release conditions with a number of terms including not to molest, harass or annoy the victim, abstain from communicating with her and stay away from her residence. The accused has been charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and 6 counts of breach of a release document.


Youths Charged with Theft

Yesterday afternoon 2 16-year old youths approached a male in the downtown area and asked for 2 smaller bills in exchange for a larger bill. The victim was handed 2 smaller bills, but a closer look revealed that the 2 youths had ripped one smaller bill and folded it in such a way to make it look like 2 full bills, thereby short changing the victim. The victim called the police who arrested the 2 youths. When officers checked on the one youth they learned that the accused was on a release document with conditions including notify change of address. Officers learned the accused had failed to do so. When officers searched this youth they also found 2 grams of marijuana on the accused, with a street value of $20. This youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000, 1 count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and 2 counts of breach of release documents and will appear in bail court this morning. The second youth was charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on July 19th.


Possession Charges Laid

Yesterday morning 43-year old Denis Morin of 414 Albert Street West attended at the City Police Station and turned himself in on outstanding charges. On the 8th of June officers from Investigation Services executed a search warrant at the accused’s home and located a diamond ring that had been reported stolen from a break and entered into a home in the 400 block of Albert Street West on May 25th. Officers also located 7.6 grams of cocaine with a street value of $760. Mr. Morin has been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. He will appear in court on July 18th.
