Youth Charged with Mischief

A 15-year old youth will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested last evening just after 10 pm. It is alleged that the youth failed to be in their home by 10 pm on July 23rd, which was a condition of a release document. It is also alleged that yesterday afternoon the youth punched a hole in a wall at the residence they were living in. The youth has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of breach of a release document.

Drug Bust

Yesterday afternoon officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit and the City Police executed a search warrant at 18 Avon Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie. Officers initially located approximately 10 grams of marijuana. The Canine Unit, with Police Dog Gunner, assisted in a further search and successfully located 2 large bags of marijuana weighing approximately 345 grams. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be worth $7100. David Hache,of that address has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession for the purpose of tracking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of breach of probation.


Impaired Drivers Charged

Just after 2 am this morning City Police observed a car traveling eastbound on Albert Street East near Dennis Street wander across the centre. When officers stopped the car they noted that the driver appeared to be until the influence of alcohol. The male was arrested and has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. Michael Bentley, of 198 Chambers Avenue will appear in court on August 29th.

Just before 4:30 am this morning patrol officers stopped a car on McNabb Street and Edmonds Avenue. When officer approached the driver side of the car they noted that the driver had a large bottle of liquor between his legs. The driver is also alleged to have shown signs of impairment. 23-year old Adam Reed of 35 Pelican Drive has been charged with one count of impaired driving. He will appear in court on August 29th.


Yesterday City Police took 6 reports of break and enters:

1) Yesterday morning ABD Construction at Third Line East and Great Northern Road reported that between July 21st and yesterday thieves entered a fenced area and stole a number of tools and 2 generators.

2) Yesterday morning a home in the 400 block of Albert Street West was entered during the early morning hours of the 25th. It is unknown what was taken at this time.

3) A homeowner in the 100 block of Gibbs Street reported that between overnight between July 24th and July 25th thieves entered a shed and stole 3 vacuum cleaners and 2 cans of gasoline.

4) During the noon hours yesterday a home in the 200 block of Strand Avenue was entered and thieves made off with a portable phone and some jewellery.

5) A shed in the 100 block of Tilley Road had it’s lock cut off but nothing appears to have been taken. The damage was noticed late last evening.

6) A homeowner in a residence in the 800 block of Wellington Street East returned from a two-week holiday to find that a number of items were removed from the home. A list of items taken is being compiled.
