Persons to appear in bail court On Saturday January 1st, 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 32-year-old male for assault causing bodily harm.

On Saturday January 1st, 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 32-year-old male for assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his girlfriend by striking her in the face and upper body several times. The victim suffered injuries that required treatment at the Sault Area Hospital. The accused is charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

On Saturday January 1st, 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 31-year-old female for arson. It is alleged that on Friday December 31st 2010, at approximately 11:30 pm, the accused set an apartment on fire. No one was reported injured in the incident but the building suffered major damage. It is believed that the fire was started after the accused was assaulted by her boyfriend. The incident occurred in the west end of the city. The accused is charged with one count of arson

Drug warrant executed
On Friday December 31st 2010 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the O.P.P. Canine Unit executed a drug search warrant at an east end residence. As a result of the search it is alleged that a 28-year-old male and a 29-year-old female were in possession of 31.4 grams of marihuana, 41.8 grams of cocaine and 159 tablets of ecstasy. It is also alleged that the two accused were in possession of a small amount of cocaine and an oxycodone tablet – for person use. It is further alleged that the two accused were in possession of a prohibited weapon – a flick knife.

The accused were arrested and charged with possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited weapon. The male was further charged with possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to an order.

Joshua Vuotilainen, age 28 of 547 Shannon Rd. is charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon (a flick knife), one count of possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to an order, three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Margaret Matthews, age 29 of 547 Shannon Rd. is charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon (a flick knife), three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $ 6,433.

Assault and mischief
On Sunday January 2nd 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 23-year-old male for assault and mischief. It is alleged that on Sunday January 2nd 2011 the accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend by slapping her in the face several times. It is also alleged that the accused damaged the victim’s apartment door and bathroom window. The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention. The accused is charged with one count of assault and two counts of mischief.

Stolen firearms
On Sunday January 2nd 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 17-year-old male on a warrant. It is alleged that on October 18th 2010 the accused male stole two firearms from a vehicle. The accused was not arrested at that time and a warrant was issued. On Sunday January 2nd city police located the accused at an east end residence and arrested him on the warrant. The accused is charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Male arrested for impaired driving
On Saturday January 1st, 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 19-year-old male for impaired driving. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of January 1st the accused was operating his motor vehicle on Parkland Cres. when it struck a residence. It is further alleged that at the time of this offence the accused person’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. Adrian Marcil, age 19 of 60 Robertson Lake Rd. Goulais River is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80 mgs.
Mr. Marcil is to appear in court on February 7th at 9:00 am.

R.I.D.E. program results
On Friday December 31st 2010 and Saturday January 1st 2011 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service performed a R.I.D.E. program in different areas of the city. A total of 445 vehicles were stopped. One roadside test was performed resulting in a passing test.

Arson
The Sault Ste Marie Police and Fire Services are investigating a suspected arson to a shed in the 200 block of Beverly St. The fire was reported in the early morning hours of Monday January 3rd.

Break and enter
Break and enters were reported to residences in the 100 block of Greenfield Ave, the 100 block of Forest Ave and the 100 block of Pentagon Blvd. Electronics were reported stolen.

Mischief
Windows were damaged to residences in the 400 block of Queen St. E. and the 600 block of Albert St. W.

A door was damaged at a residence in the 100 block of Bruce St.

Vehicles were reported damaged in the 200 block of Spruce St. and the 100 block of Goulais Ave

Theft
A vehicle was entered in the 700 block of Queen St. E. Hockey equipment and electronics were stolen.
