Earlier Release:  Two Males Arrested for Residence Break and Enter:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 30 year-old Shaun Mearow of 2643 Mission Road, Goulais River and 28 year-old Michael Radford of  655 Wallace Terrace (upstairs)  on the 27th of January in relation to a residence break and enter.  It is alleged that on the 27th of January at 2:30 pm the accused, Shaun Mearow along with co-accused, Michael Radford and another male broke into a residence on Gagnon Road and stole some jewellery, coins and liquor. 

Police know the identity of the third male and are attempting to locate him.  Further charges are pending.  Both accused males were charged with one count of break and enter and are to appear in court on the 27th of February. 

Update

Blake Hudson, age 29, of #3-28 Hughes Street has been identified as the third male that was wanted by police for the Gagnon Road residence break and enter incident from the 27th of January. 

The accused is currently in custody charged with numerous offenses in relation to the Pim Street residence robbery from the 30th of January. 

In relation to the Gagnon Road break and enter, the accused is further charged with one count of break and enter, one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. 

It is alleged that during the break enter the accused assaulted the homeowner that attempted to apprehend him when locating him inside the home. 

No injuries were reported to the homeowner.  Further, the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good. 

The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 30 year-old Scott Purvis of 353 Carpin Beach Road on the 30th of January at 10:18 am at the police station and charged him with one count of fail to appear for prints.  It is alleged that on the 16th of January the accused fail to appear for prints in relation to a breath demand refusal charge.  He is to appear in court on the 5th of March. 

Search Warrant at Local Hotel Results in Two Males Charged with Drug and Weapon Offenses:

On the 30th of January, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Street Team and the Investigations Unit conducted a drug investigation that resulted in the execution of a search warrant at a local hotel room and two males being charged with weapon and numerous drug offenses. 

When officers conducted the search they located 5.1 grams of cocaine; 7 grams of heroin, 21 Oxycontin tablets, 2 digital scales, debt lists, pricing sheet, a large amount cash and a prohibited knife (opens with centrifugal force).  At the time of their original arrest, both males, who have extensive conditions to abide by, provided false names to the officers. 

As a result, the two males are charged with the following offenses:

1)      Todd Samuel, age, 18, of 101 White Oaks Court, Whitby, Ontario has been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon one count of  obstruct police officer. 

At the time of the offences, the accused was bound by the conditions of a recognizance to remain in his residence unless in the presence of his surety, abstain from substances prohibited by the controlled drugs and substances act, and a weapons prohibition.  As a result, he was further charged with three counts of breach of recognizance.

2)      Rashane Jarrett, age 23, of #51-149 Kings Crescent, Ajax, Ontario was charged with three counts of  possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of obstruct police officer. 

At the time of the offences, the accused was bound by the conditions of a recognizance to remain in his residence unless in the presence of his surety, abstain from substances prohibited by the controlled drugs and substances act, and not to possess any cell phone or pager.  As a result, he was further charged with three counts of breach of recognizance. 

In addition the accused was bound by a court order not to possess any prohibited weapons, and was further charged with possession of a prohibited weapon in contravention of a court order.

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $9350.00.  Both accused males are to appear in bail court this morning. 

Snowmobile Operator Charged with Consuming over the Legal Limit:  

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20 year-old Dylan Marshall of 77 Johnson Avenue on the 30th of January at 9:4 7 pm on Second Line East and charged him with one count of consuming over the legal limit.  It is alleged that on the 30th of January at approximately 9:36 pm the accused was operating a snowmobile in a parking lot of a business on Second Line East and at the time he was under the influence of alcohol.  The accused was given a roadside screening device test by officers and registered a fail.  The accused is to appear in court on the 5th of March.

Shoplifting Related Charge:   

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service charged a 16 year-old female youth yesterday afternoon at Zellers on Bay Street after she allegedly attended at the store and stole some items.   She has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.000 and is to appear in court on the 6th of March. 

Break and Enter/Theft Reports:  

  • A downtown business was broken into around midnight overnight.  A rock was thrown through the front window and entry was gained.  A small number of items were reported taken. 
  • A residence on Morin Street was broken into last night.  A television, camera equipment and jewellery were reported stolen. 
  • A shed on Wellington Street East was broken into sometime over the past two months.  An outboard motor and a generator were reported stolen. 
  • Gas was stolen from U-Hauls on Bruce Street.

Mischief Report:

  • A vehicle parked on Bay Street had a window and taillight broken.
