Youth Arrested for Assault with a Weapon: Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 13 year-old male youth yesterday afternoon in relation to an assault complaint at a local elementary school.

Youth Arrested for Assault with a Weapon: 

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 13 year-old male youth yesterday afternoon in relation to an assault complaint at a local elementary school.  It is alleged that the youth assaulted two fellow classmates yesterday morning with a pointing stick while in class.  No injuries were reported.  The youth was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and is to appear in court on the 28th of February.   

Domestic Related Arrest for Bail Court:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 34 year-old male on the 23rd of January at 11:10 pm at his residence and charged him with one count of assault, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of kill or injure an animal.  It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common law partner at their residence during the first week of January and threatened to kill her back in October 2011. 

Further, the accused killed the family cat during fit of rage in December of 2006.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Shoplifting Related Charges

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18 year-old Joshua Mitchell of 228 Bye Side Road, Goulais River on the 23rd of January at 4:30 pm at Wal-Mart and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000.  It is alleged that on the 23rd of January at 3:55 pm accused attended at Wal-Mart and stole some Yu-Gi-Oh cards. The accused was apprehended by store security and held for police.  He is to appear in court on the 27th of February. 

Traffic Delays on Queen Street East due to First Nations Peaceful Unity March and Rally:  

The public and motorists should expect some traffic delays on Queen Street East between March Street and Tancred Street between 10:30am and 11:30 am due to the First Nations “In Honour of The Treaties”  Peaceful Unity March and Rally.  Local First Nation citizens and their supporters will be gathering at the courthouse at 10:00 am and at approximately 10:30 am will be marching on Queen Street East from the courthouse, eastbound to Tancred Street.  They will then gather at the Government Building at 22 Bay Street.  The march and rally is expected to conclude by 11:30 am.

Break and Enter Reports:

  • A residence was broken into on Sherbourne Street sometime between the 22nd and 23rd of January.  Jewellery and medication were reported stolen. 
  • A residence on London Street was broken into sometime Friday evening.  An X-Box 360, a Blackberry phone and two dumb bells were stolen.
  • A residence on Wellington Street East was broken into yesterday.  Cash and alcohol was reported taken.
  • A residence on Third Line West was broken into yesterday afternoon.  Jewellery was taken.
  • An attempt break and enter was reported top a residence on Dennis Street yesterday.
