Drug Warrant Arrest

On the 18th of January at approximately 3:38 p.m., members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team and Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant in the 300 block of Huron Street. On arrival, officers observed 46 year-old Douglas Harvey Martin to be in possession of and consuming alcohol, in contravention of a release condition. During the course of the search, officers located a 100 mg morphine tablet and a cannabis resin cigarette (spliff) in the possession of Doug Martin and a small amount of drug paraphernalia. The accused was also found in the company of a female that he is on conditions not to associate or communicate with. As a result, officers charged Douglas Harvey Martin of 609 Shafer Avenue was charged with three counts of breach of recognizance and two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

Domestic Related Arrests

A 52 year-old male was arrested last evening around 7:34 pm at his residence and charged with one count of assault, one count of mischief, one count of threaten death or bodily harm, one count of assault peace officer and one count of resist arrest. City police received a call regarding a domestic dispute at the residence of the accused last night shortly after 7 pm. Officers investigating the call learned that the accused allegedly threatened to kill his wife, assaulted her and smashed some items in the residence. When officers attempted to arrest him, he resisted, and struggled with them and assaulted one of the officers.

A 50 year-old male was arrested on the 18th of January at 12:44 at an east end residence and charged with three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 15th of January the accused contacted his ex-wife by telephone and two days later attended at her residence. At the time he was on probation conditions from previous domestic related offence that he not communicate with her or to attend at her place of residence. He was also to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

22 year-old Norman Lund of #2-265 St. James Street was arrested yesterday morning on an outstanding warrant on Great Northern Road by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team. He has been charged with one count of breach of a release document as he allegedly failed to sign in at the Police Services Building as part of his condition on the 1st of January.

Female Shoplifter Arrested

20 year-old Priscilla Basawa of 39 Timothy Place was arrested on the 18th of January at 11:52 am at Zellers at the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 after she allegedly attended at the store around 11:23 am yesterday and stole a number of items. She was apprehended by store security and police were contacted. She is to attend in court on the 22nd of February.

Property Crimes

• A snow machine in the backyard of a residence in the 3000 block of Queen Street East was reported damaged.
• A vehicle on Gore Street was broken into and a Garmin GPS was stolen. A window and the ignition area were smashed.
