A 64 year old man was arrested by detectives today and released with a court date of 04 Feb 2013. It is alleged that on or about the 31st of October 2012 the accused sexually assaulted his four year old grandson. The accused was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

At 1250 p.m. officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at Great Northern Road and Fifth Line. A van had rolled into a ditch but the driver was able to get out of the vehicle without ant reported injuries.

A shed was broken into on Jemmette Street overnight. Nothing appeared taken.

Three windows were broken overnight at businesses located in the Wellington Square Mall on Trunk Road.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to 52 calls for service overnight during New Years Eve.

On December 29, 2012 between midnight and 7:30 AM, unknown persons smashed the rear window of a vehicle parked in the driveway of the 100 block of Broadview Drive. No property was taken from the vehicle.

On December 31, 2012 at approximately 1:00 AM, a 15 year old male youth attended at the driveway of a residence in the 100 block of Broadview Drive. Officers learned that a BB gun had been discharged at a vehicle in the driveway causing damage to it. Police Officers located and arrested the youth responsible at 11:00 PM and charged the youth with mischief under $5000. The youth will be attending court on February 05, 2013.

On January 01, 2013 at approximately 1:55 AM, officers observed a male running up Gore Street with a can of beer. When the male spotted the officers, he ran onto the roadway and kicked the police cruiser as it passed by him. Subsequently, 19 year old Derrick Neveau-Duguay of 606 Placid Avenue was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and have open liquor.

In a similar incident, an 18 year old female from Chapleau, Ontario and a 21 year old male from Batchewana First Nation were also arrested in the downtown area for being intoxicated in a public place.

A home owner in the 100 block of Estelle Street, discovered his stereo system was stolen from his vehicle overnight. The owner reports it is unknown how entry was gained but thieves relocked his vehicle after taking the stereo.
