Four persons to appear in bail court Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended in Sudbury to arrest a 25-year-old male for assault.

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended in Sudbury to arrest a 25-year-old male for assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his wife on November 15th, 2010 by punching her several times on the shoulders and legs. Victim suffered bruising as a result of the assault. It is further alleged that at the time of this offence the accused was on a probation order release with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused had been arrested by Sudbury Regional on a warrant and was turned over to the Sault Ste Marie Police. The accused is charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation.

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended in Sudbury to arrest a 26-year-old female for failing to appear in court. It is alleged that on November 30th, 2010 the accused female failed to appear in court on theft under $ 5,000 charges. The accused was arrested by Sudbury Regional on a warrant and turned over to the Sault Ste Marie Police. Rosemary Pheasant, age 26, of 46 pearl St. Sudbury is charged with one count of failing to appear for court.

Yesterday evening at approximately 8:30 pm members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 45-year-old female for assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted her common-law husband on November 27th by striking him in the head. Victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment at that time. The accused is charged with one count of assault.

Last night at approximately 8:00 pm members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service were called to assist Station Mall security officers with an intoxicated male. Upon arrival officers located an intoxicated 44-year-old male and attempted to arrest him. It is alleged that the accused resisted arrest and threatened to kill the security officers and a police officer. The accused was subsequently arrested and charged. Michael Lauzon, age 44, of no fixed abode, is charged with one count of resist arrest and three counts of threatening death.

Train- snowmobile collision
On Sunday December 19th at approximately 5:50 pm members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service were called to investigate a collision between a C.N. Rail train and a snow machine on the train line south of Fourth Line W. and east of Moss Rd. It is alleged that the driver of the snow machine was southbound on the train tracks when his machine got stuck between the tracks. As the train, also travelling south on the tracks, approached the snow machine the driver was able get clear before his machine was struck. The driver, 24-year-old Rocky Robitaille, of 672 Lennox Ave, was not injured but was charged under the Railway Safety Act.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Canadian National Police would like to remind the public that train lines are private property. Snowmobiles; ATV’s and pedestrians are not authorized and are prohibited from being on or along the railway tracks at anytime. All trespassers to railway property may be subject to charges and or fines of up to $ 5,000 contrary to the Railway Safety Act.

R.I.D.E. Program Statistics
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service performed two R.I.D.E. programs over the weekend.

On Friday December 17th officers checked 340 vehicles. No drivers were found to be drinking or contravening any Provincial or Federal statutes.

On Saturday December 18th officers checked 401 vehicles. One roadside test was administered and a breath test was performed. No charges were laid as a result of these tests.
