Officers learned that Pekka Keskitalo, age 42 of 183 Valley Riobe Heights, Calgary Alberta, was driving a 2003 silver Dodge Caravan south on Pine Street when he failed to stop at a red traffic signal at the Wellington Street East intersection.

The van then struck a 1984 blue Chevrolet truck that was being driven eastbound on Wellington Street by Matti Hanninen, age 20 of 8 Hugill Street.

The impact of this collision caused the truck to rotate in a clockwise direction across the intersection and strike a third vehicle, a 1986 Volkswagen Jetta that was stopped facing northbound on Pine Street awaiting the light to turn green. Jeffrey Ferguson, age 32 of 12 Hawthorne Ave., was driving the Jetta.

After the impact with the truck, the van continued in a southeast direction across the intersection and struck the front porch of the residence at 303 Pine Street. This impact forced the concrete steps under the home.

Keskitalo and a passenger in his van, Jerry Martinea, age 34 also from the same address in Calgary, were taken to hospital by ambulance, along with Hanninen and Ferguson. Investigators from the Traffic Services Section of the Sault Ste.
