Eight persons to appear in bail court On Monday April 25th members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 21-year-old female for parental abduction.
Eight persons to appear in bail court
On Monday April 25th members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 21-year-old female for parental abduction. It is alleged that on Sunday April 24th the accused abducted her three-year-old daughter, from the child’s legal guardian, by not returning her and fleeing. The accused was subsequently located and the child returned to the legal guardian. Kristy Barsanti, age 21, of 53 Robin St. is charged with one count of Abduction in contravention of custody order.

On Friday April 22nd, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 17-year-old female for break and enter. It is alleged that at 3:15 am the accused broken in the L.C.B.O. Store, located at 275 Second Line W. and stole a quantity of liquor. The alarm was activated and the accused was located a short distance from the store. The accused is charged with one count of break and enter.

On Thursday April 21st members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 24-year-old male for assault. It is alleged that the accused attended at the residence of his ex-girlfriend and while there he assaulted her by punching her in the face and kneeing her in the stomach. It is also alleged that the accused punched a male in the face at that residence. The accused is charged with two counts of assault. The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

On Saturday April 23rd members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 52-year-old female for assault. It is alleged that the accused attended at the residence of her boyfriend and while there she assaulted him by grabbing him by the hair and kicking him. The accused is charged with one count of assault. Victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

On Monday April 25th members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 17-year-old male for assault, mischief and threatening. It is alleged that the accused attended at the residence of his ex-girlfriend and while there he assaulted her by grabbing her by the arms. It is further alleged that he damaged a wall at the residence and then threatened the victim. The accused is charged with one count of threatening, one count of assault and one count of mischief. The victim suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

On April 25th at approximately 11:00 pm members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service were called to a residence in the west end regarding a home invasion. Upon arrival officers spoke to the complainants and received information that the suspects, some of whom were known to the victim, fled in a white pick-up truck. A search of the area by police resulted in the arrest of three males. Arrested were Joshua Vanatta, Christopher Gilmar and a 17-year-old male.

It is alleged that the three accused attended at the residence of the victim and forced their way in at knife point. It is further alleged that one of the accused assaulted the victim by punching him in the face. The accused persons are further alleged to have stolen property from the residence before fleeing. Upon arrest officers located a small amount of marihuana on Joshua Vanatta. It is further alleged that Mr. Vanatta was on probation and on a recognizance release order at the time of these offences.

Joshua Vanatta, age 22, of 343 Korah Rd. is charged with one count of assault, one count of robbery, one count of break and enter, one count of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of breach of probation, one count of breach of a recognizance and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Christopher Gilmar, age 20, of 49 Glenwood Ave is charged with one count of robbery, one count of break and enter and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

A 17-year-old male is charged with one count of robbery, one count of break and enter and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

Break and Enter
A residence in the 300 block of Albert St. W. was entered. A small amount of cash was taken.
A residence in the 100 block of Church St. was entered. Medications were stolen.

Mischief
A window was broken at a residence in the 500 block of Wallace Terr.
Vehicles were damaged in the following locations:
- the 1500 block of Third Line E.
- the 400 block of Queen St. E.
- the 300 block of Franklin St.
- the 400 block of Great Northern Rd.
- two vehicles were damaged in the 100 block of Great Northern Rd.

Theft
Vehicles were entered and items stolen from the following locations:
The 700 block of McKenzie Ave, the 1400 block of Base Line, the 300 block of Dacey Rd,
the 300 block of Bay St, two vehicles in the 250 block of Spruce St, the 100 block of Foster Dr, two vehicles in the 100 block of White Oak Dr, the 200 block of Queen St. E, the 200 block of Wellington St. W. and the 400 block of Nelson St.
Purses, wallets, medication, electronic items and small amount s of cash were stolen.

Robberies
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating two robberies that occurred over the weekend.

1. On Sunday April 24th at approximately 2:20 am a taxi driver was robbed of some cash by a lone male. The suspect held a sharp item to the taxi driver’s throat and demanded money. The accused then fled from the cab at the intersection of Gore St. and Albert St. Suspect is described as: Male, white, 5’5’ tall, early 20’s, skinny build, wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

2. On Monday April 25th at approximately 12:15 pm an elderly female was assaulted and robbed of her purse while walking on Elgin St. near Bay St. Suspect is described as: Male, early 20’s, wearing a dark hoodie, dark clothing. Last seen running towards Bruce St.
