ATTEMPT TO LEAVE TOWN - ARRESTED Yesterday at 9:40 am, the accused, Richard Maki, age 39 of 188 Cathcart Street was at the Social Services Office on Albert Street East trying to get a bus ticket to Alberta.
ATTEMPT TO LEAVE TOWN - ARRESTED
Yesterday at 9:40 am, the accused, Richard Maki, age 39 of 188 Cathcart Street was at the Social Services Office on Albert Street East trying to get a bus ticket to Alberta. Maki is on conditions not to leave Sault Ste. Marie.

Police were notified of the incident and subsequently arrested and charged him with Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court.


TRIED TO STEAL LIQUOUR
Yesterday at 10:00 am, the accused, Robert Richards, age 38 of 40 Hynze Street was arrested for theft under $5000. The accused allegedly attempted to take a bottle of liquor and a 6 pack of beer from the LCBO in the Station Mall. He walked past the tills without attempting to purchase the merchandise. He was arrested by store and mall security outside of the store.

The accused was also found to be intoxicated and uneasy on his feet with a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage. He was belligerent with staff members and attempted to leave the store before police arrived.

City Police officers were called to the mall and the accused was taken into police custody and transported to the police station for public safety. He was charged with Theft under $5,000.00 and being Intoxicated in a Public Place. He will appear in court on May 26th.


ACCUSED SHOPLIFTER ARRESTED
Yesterday at 2:50 pm, the accused, Frederick Atkinson, age 38 of 17 Abbott Street went to Zellers at the Station Mall. At this time he entered the shoe department and tried on a pair of shoes.

He then allegedly placed them back in the box, left the aisle, took the shoes out of the box and placed them in a Zellers bag. He then exited the store without paying for the merchandise. Zellers Loss Prevention staff then arrested the accused.

Police Officers were called and they charged him with Theft under $5,000.00. He will appear in court on May 26th.


TRIED TO BREAK INTO POLICE CAR
Early today at 12:20 am, police officers were called to the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel on Great Northern Road where two young offenders had tried to enter an unmarked O.P.P. cruiser that was parked there.

The off duty police officer observed the two youths attempting to enter the cruiser. The cruiser, although unmarked, was readily identifiable as a police car based on its emergency lighting and antenna package.

Patrol officers arrested and charged the youths, a 13-year-old female and 15-year-old male of Second Line West, with Possession of House Breaking Tools when they were found with screw drivers and chisels near the cruiser. The youths will appear in court in mid May.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is investigating three break and enters from the past 24 hours. Yesterday at 8:24 am a resident in the 600 block of Boundary Road advised police that thieves had broken into his shed and stolen a snow blower.

At 7:07 pm Police were advised by an employee that a door was open at the Korah Branch of the Public Library at 496 Second Line West. A DVD player was reported missing from there. And at 5:20 am Police were called to Algoma Industrial on Yates Road for a break in to that business.
