A Toronto resident is facing charges after an incident on Black Road on Thursday evening.

At around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, someone phoned 911 to report a vehicle being sideswiped by a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) — and the CMV driver assaulting the victim.

An investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service determined that the CMV had swerved while passing the victim and making contact with their vehicle, damaging the vehicle and causing it to drive onto the curb.

The driver of the CMV continued to drive away before being stopped by the victim, police say. The CMV driver then got out of their vehicle and punched the victim before driving away again, police allege.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries in the altercation.

Around 4 a.m. on April 12, the driver of the CMV went to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and identified themselves and the person was arrested.

Alexander Allen, 41, from Toronto, has been charged with:

  • assault
  • dangerous operation
  • failure to remain (under the Highway Traffic Act)

Allen was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on June 10.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Allen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
