From Monday Sept 13th report City Police arrested 23-year old Michael Gerner of 35 Hughes Street shortly after 1 am on Saturday night after receiving a call of a suspicious male in a yard in the downtown area.

City Police arrested 23-year old Michael Gerner of 35 Hughes Street shortly after 1 am on Saturday night after receiving a call of a suspicious male in a yard in the downtown area. When checked by officers the accused had a screwdriver and clippers in his possession as well as 3 sets of keys.

At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The accused has been charged with one count of breach of probation, one count of trespass by night and one count of possession of housebreaking tools. He will appear in court on October 18th.


Update:
Yesterday morning city police again arrested Michael Gerner of 35 Hughes Street and charged him with 2 additional offences. When officers arrested Mr. Gerner, he had 3 sets of keys in his possession. Police were able to determine that the accused took these keys from a pickup truck that had been parked in the downtown area. The owners of the truck reported a description of the stolen keys to the police who were able to match them to a set of keys found on the accused.

Gerner was further charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of stolen property. He will appear in court on October 18th for these charges as well.


DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Shortly before lunchtime yesterday, police were called to a downtown residence for a domestic dispute. The officers determined that a 22-year old female punched her common law boyfriend in the face. The female was arrested later in the day and will appear in court on October 25th after being charged with one count of assault.


BREACH OF RELEASE CONDITIONS
Last night shortly before 10 pm, 22-year-old Curtis Pheasant was observed walking along Albert Street West by patrol officers. A query of Mr. Pheasant revealed he was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants for 2 counts of breach of probation.

It is alleged that Mr. Pheasant failed to report to his probation officer and also failed to form his community service hours as ordered. As a result of this warrants were requested for the accused. Mr. Pheasant will appear in court on October 25th.


CAUSING A DISTURBANCE
Shortly after midnight city police were called to the downtown area in the 500 block of Queen Street East after receiving reports of a male being intoxicated and causing problems.

The male was at a downtown restaurant when he became belligerent with the staff and refused to leave when asked to. Upon seeing the police car arrive the accused left the restaurant, but was arrested by officers and taken to the police station.

Jody Lynn Gibson, age 31, of 693 Third Line East has been charged with one count of cause a disturbance by being drunk. He will appear in court on October 25th.


TURNED HIMSELF IN TO POLICE
Shortly before 6:00 this morning, a 37-year-old male turned himself it at the police station. He was wanted in relation to a domestic violence call that had occurred on the 15th of September around midnight.

It is alleged that the male and his ex-girlfriend got into an argument and he punched her several times as well as slapping her. The victim sought medical treatment for her injuries. The accused also kicked the victim’s television causing it to break. He has been charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief. He will appear in court on October 25th.


ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES
Yesterday morning city police were called to the intersection of Bruce Street and Grosvenor Avenue for an accident with injuries. It is alleged that a van driven by 74-year-old Vilho Kamula of Chestnut Street turned in front of a car driven by 21-year-old Ashley Stevenson of Hamilton Avenue.

Mr. Kamula had been travelling west bound on Grosvenor Avenue, and made a left hand turn onto Bruce Street in front of Ms Stevenson who had been travelling east bound on Grosvenor. Neither driver required medical treatment at the time of the accident for their injuries.

Mr. Kamula has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with one count of left turn-fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision.
