Three Shoplifting Related Arrests

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 22 year-old Justin Long of 90 Grace Street (main floor apt.) at 3:30 pm yesterday afternoon at the IDA Pharmacy in the Station Mall and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of assault and one count of escape lawful custody.

It is alleged that on the 31st of August the accused attended the IDA Pharmacy at 293 Bay Street and was observed taking a bottle of Glycerin from the aisle and then exiting the store without paying for it. A store employee attempted to arrest the accused just outside the store when the accused attempted to run from him, knocking down a female customer in the process. Security attended and with the assistance of some other customers, they were able apprehend and hold him until police arrived.

The female customer received non-life threatening injuries as a result. The accused is to appear in court on the 3rd of October.

Three youths were arrested by officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service last night for a shoplifting incident at the Highway Variety Store on Trunk Road that occurred around 7:50 pm last evening. A 17 year-old male entered the store with two females, aged 15 and 16 years and left the store with a number of items that they did not pay for. Officers arrested them a short time later in the area and all were found in possession of the stolen items.

The 17 year-old male has been charged with one count of possession of stolen property, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation as he was on conditions at the time to keep the peace and be good. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

The 15 year-old female resisted and assaulted the officers during her arrest by spitting, punching and kicking them and as a result she was charged with one count of assault peace officer, resist arrest and one count of possession of stolen property. She is to appear in court on the 4th of October.

The 16 year-old female was charged with one count of possession of stolen property and will also appear in court on the 4th of October.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 16 year-old male youth at 5:58 pm last evening and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attended at the LCBO Store in the Station Mall on the 31st of August and stole a bottle of rum. He is to appear in court on the 1st of November.

Male Arrested for Fraud

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 53 year-old Kevin Bjornaa of 765 McAllen Street on the 31st of August at 2:05 pm and charged him with one count of personation with intent and one count of fraud.

It is alleged that on the 31st of August the accused attended at Zellers at approximately 1:30 pm and attempted to return some clothing items. The items were not Zellers brand clothing but had tags from Zellers stapled to them. The accused then signed the return receipt with a false name. The accused is to appear in court on the 3rd of October.

Domestic Related Arrest

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 38 year-old female at 9:25 pm last evening and charged her with two counts of assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 10th and 30th of August the accused assaulted her common law partner during verbal argument at their residence. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the both assaults that required medical attention. The accused is to attend in bail court this morning.

Break and Enter/Theft Reports

• Five rolls of insulated ground BX wire was reported stolen from a construction site at the St. Patrick School.

• Copper cable was reported stolen from a construction site in the 600 block of Great northern Road.

• Theft of 1000 litres of fuel was reported stolen from holding tanks at a local golf course.

• A purse left inside a vehicle parked at a local business on Trunk Road was stolen just before 1 pm yesterday.

• The Laundry room of a Bretton Road apartment complex was entered and money was stolen from the washing machines.

• A font plate of a vehicle parked on St. Mary’s River Drive was stolen.
