Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 38 year-old female at 4:53 pm yesterday and charged her with one count of breach of probation.

It is alleged that on the 5th of October the accused called her ex-boyfriend on two occasions. At the time she was on probation with conditions that she not contact or communicate with him. The accused is to appear in court on the 9th of November.

An apartment on Gore Street was broken into sometime overnight on the 4th-5th of October. Some pain medication was reported taken.

Motorists Continuing to Not Stop for School Buses

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received more complaints regarding motorists not stopping for school buses. Most of the complaints are involving multi-lane roads.

Motorists are reminded, regardless if it is a multi-lane road, they must not pass the bus and have to stop when approaching a stopped school bus with its upper lights flashing.

Drivers must stay stopped while the flashing stop arm is extended and passengers are boarding or leaving the bus. Once all passengers have boarded or are safely away from the bus the stop arm will fold away. Do not start moving until the red lights have stopped flashing and the bus begins to move.

Officers in the Traffic Unit and Patrol Services will be stepping up their enforcement with regards to illegal passing of school buses and will lay the appropriate charges as to any infractions.

Penalties for Not Stopping

Failing to stop for a school bus with its upper red lights flashing can result in fines from $400.00 to $2000 and six demerit points for a first offence. Each subsequent offence can result in fines from $1000 to $4000, six demerit points and possible jail time up to six months. In addition to the driver being fined, a vehicle owner could face a fine from $400 to $2,000.
