Child Pornography Investigation Leads to Arrest and Charges:

32 year-old John Penney of #3-429 Wellington Street East was arrested on the 29th of October at 3:07 pm at his residence and charged with one count of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Importing or Distributing Child Pornography. On the 27th of October the Sault Ste Marie Police Service’s Technological Crime Unit commenced a child pornography investigation involving the accused. Just after 3 pm on the 29th of October, with the assistance of Investigation Services, the Street Team and the Emergency Services Unit, a search warrant was executed at the residence of the accused. It is alleged that during the course of the search, officers found and seized evidence of child pornography, including two computer towers, a series of compact disks, a digital camera and other hardware components. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Four Youths Arrested for Break and Enter to a Residence on Second Line East:

On the 29th of October around 6:23 pm city police received information from a witness regarding a break and enter in progress to a residence located in the 700 block of Second Line East. Police arrived on scene and when they entered the residence they could smell a strong odor of marihuana and obvious evidence that at it had just recently been smoked. Four youths were found hiding in the attic on the second floor and officers also located and seized three baggies that contained approximately 23.2 grams of marihuana inside.

All four were arrested and charged with the following offences and are all to appear in court on the 2nd of December:

1) A 17 year-old male has been charged with one count of break, enter and commit, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of breach of probation as at the time of the offence he was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

2) A 16 year-old male was charged with one count of break, enter and commit and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

3) A 15 year-old male was charged with one count of break, enter and commit, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of breach of probation as at the time of the offence he was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

4) A 17 year-old female has been charged with one count of break, enter and commit and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrant for Assault:

43 year-old Carrie Jones of 894 Bonney Street was arrested on the 29th of October around 7:45 pm at Canada Customs on Huron Street on an outstanding warrant and charged with one count of assault. The accused was denied entry into the U.S. when she was stopped and checked in a vehicle crossing the border after the check revealed that she was wanted on the outstanding warrant for assault. It is alleged that on the 31st of August the accused assaulted a female known to her behind a local downtown bar by punching her in the face, pushing her into a car door, kicking her and then swinging the car door open to strike the victim. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault. The accused is to appear in court on the 1st of December.

Property Crimes: Mischief Reports

- A Portable at Queen Elizabeth School on McMeeken Street was spray painted by some youths around 9 pm last night. The complainant also advised the same youths may have also been responsible for smashing pumpkins that were displayed on his property. The pumpkins were found smashed on the road in front of the residence.
- A vehicle on Partridge Court was damaged after being keyed.

Break and Enter Report:

A garage in the 100 block of Foothill Road was entered sometime overnight on the 28th-29th of October. A blue 2004 Yamaha dirt bike was reported stolen.
