On the 14th and 15th of October 2003 High School Liaison Officers from the Investigation Services Section of the Sault Ste.
On the 14th and 15th of October 2003 High School Liaison Officers from the Investigation Services Section of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Joint Forces Drug Unit Officers, and Canine Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted drug searches at all of the local High Schools.

On the 14th of October 2003 police officers were assisting the staff from a local High School search for controlled drugs or substances. The officers search revealed that a locker belonging to a 16-year-old youth had approximately 0.7 grams of marijuana in it. The substance was located in a piece of clothing in the locker. Police officers arrested and charged the youth with Possession of Marijuana. The youth will appear in court in mid November.

In a related arrest on the 14th of October 2003 at 2:45 pm police officers were assisting the staff of the same High School with a search for controlled substances. A police canine searched a classroom and indicated that one of the students had suspected drugs on their person. As a result the 16-year-old youth was searched and a total of 4.2 grams of marijuana was located in individually packaged half-gram quantities on the young person. The young person was arrested for Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking. The youth will appear in court in mid November.)

Yesterday at 10:05 am a search by this team of officers at Holy Angels Adult Centre, at 102 Wellington Street East, revealed that a female student had a marijuana cigarette in her possession. Officers have charged Kimberly Mador, age 25 of 10 Copernicus Street with Possession of a Controlled Substance. She will appear in court on November 24th.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT
On the 15th of October 2003 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the accused, a 26-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie and the victim, his common-in-law wife, became involved in a domestic argument at their home. The argument turned physical and the accused assaulted the victim. The victim received minor injures in the incident. Police officers attended at the residence and arrested and charged the accused with Assault. He will appear in bail court today.

PRISONER ESCAPE AND CAPTURE
On the 15th of October 2003 Gordon Jenkins, age 27 of Hughes Street was being transported to the Northern Treatment Centre from the court house in the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Prisoner van. At 2:03 pm in the area of the Third Line and the Industrial Court Road, Jenkins damaged the door of the van and forced his way out of the prisoner van and escaped.

Emergency Service Unit members, assisted by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Canine “Eagle” located Jenkins at 2:16 pm in a wooded area a short distance from where he escaped. The accused was arrested and charged with Mischief and Escape Lawful Custody. He will appear in bail court today.

ANOTHER DRUG BUST
On the 15th of October 2003 at 2:45 pm Officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act warrant at a downtown apartment. Police subsequently located 234 grams of cannabis marijuana with a street value of over $4,000.00. Arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking were two16 year old young persons, a 19-year-old male and 20-year-old female. They will appear in court in mid November.

BUS SHELTER ATTACKED
On the 15th of October 2003 at 3:19 pm Leslie Nagy, age 35 of 352 Dacey Rd. #216 was observed kicking the window out of city bus shelter on Albert Street west of James Street. At 3:35 pm patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Mischief. The accused will appear in court on November 17th. Damage to the shelter is estimated at over $250.00.

ONE TOO MANY

At 4:25 am this morning patrol officers arrested and charged Terrence Whalen, age 21 of 365 Whitney Ave. with Driving over .08. The accused was operating a motor vehicle on Wellington Street West when Patrol Officers checked him. He will appear in court on November 17th.
