On October 12 at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, a male entered a west end grocery store, and after concealing a package of chicken in his clothing, attempted to leave the store without paying for the item.

On Oct. 12 at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, a male entered a west end grocery store, and after concealing a package of chicken in his clothing, attempted to leave the store without paying for the item. He was apprehended by store security and during the course of the apprehension the accused became assaultive towards the security guard. An unidentified customer in the store came to the aid of the security guard to assist in getting control of the accused. City Police arrived shortly thereafter and also determined that the accused was on a probation order with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behavior. 44-year-old James Syrette of Morin Street has been charged with theft under $5,000, assault and breach of probation. He will be appearing in Provincial Court on Nov. 14.
