A Number of Assault Charges Laid

1) A 52-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his ex- common law wife yesterday afternoon by punching her and pushing her down a set of stairs. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident.

2) A 20-year old male was arrested just before 2 am this morning and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused got into an argument with his girlfriend and pushed her off of a bed. The victim, who is pregnant, was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The male will appear in bail court this morning.

3) A 25-year old male was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with two counts of assault. It is alleged that on the 6th of November the accused assaulted his common law wife while in their centrally located address by hitting the victim in the head and twisting her arm. The accused was arrested on the 8th of November and will appear in bail court this morning.

Impaired Driving

This morning just after 3:30 am officers from Patrol Services stopped a vehicle on that was traveling westbound on Queen Street East just east of Bruce Street. It is alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Officers arrested 26-year old Mackenzie Manchulenko (m) of 84 Paladin Avenue and charged him with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. The accused will appear in court on December 11th.

Vehicle/Pedestrian Collision

Just before 2 am this morning officers attended in the 400 block of Northern Avenue for a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. A car operated by 20-year old Bobbie-Ann Souriol of 2-739 Wellington Street West was in a parking lot and reversed from a spot and struck a 20-year old male pedestrian. The pedestrian did not require any medical treatment during the incident. It is alleged that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drove away from the area. She was located in the area of the Group Health Centre and was subsequently charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. She will appear in court on December 4th.

Fraud Charges Laid

Yesterday morning officers from the Fraud Section arrested 44-year old Albert Rankin of upper-626 Queen Street West with 4 counts of fraud and four counts of false pretences. It is alleged that in June and July of this year the accused wrote non-sufficient fund cheques to both the Beaver gas bar on McNabb Street and the Canadian Tire gas bar. The accused will appear in court on December 11th.

Youth Charged for Incident at Highschool

Yesterday morning officers from the High School Liaison Unit arrested a 16-year old male. It is alleged that on the 1st of November the accused assaulted a male victim by striking the victim with a hockey stick. It is further alleged that on that same date the accused punched and broke a window on a fire extinguisher door at a local high school. At the time of the offences the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will appear in court on December 12th.

Two Motor Vehicle Collisions

1) Yesterday afternoon just before 1 pm officers from Patrol Services attended at Queen Street East and Tancred Street for a motor vehicle collision. A pickup truck operated by a 61-year old male and a pickup truck operated by a 58 year old male were both traveling westbound on Queen Street East. It is alleged the 58-year old driver attempted to turn left from Queen Street East onto Tancred Street from the north lane and struck the other pickup truck that was traveling in the south lane. The 61-year old driver’s pickup truck struck a light pole. He was subsequently taken by officers to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injures. Damage to both vehicles is described as light. The 58-year old male was charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of improper left turn.


2) Shortly before 2 pm officers from Traffic Services attended at Queen Street West and Andrew Street for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A car operated by a 24-year old female was traveling southbound on Andrew Street. A car operated by a 68-year old male was traveling westbound on Queen Street West. It is alleged that the female driver failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with the second vehicle, which then spun and slid into the curb knocking down a sign. The car operated by the female also spun and came to a rest up against the second vehicle. The 24-year old female was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. The female has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of disobey stop sign-fail to stop.

There were two break and enters reported in the last 24-hour period:

1) Jewellery and electronics were taken from a home on Borron Avenue. The break and enter occurred during the daytime hours of the 8th of November.

2) Yesterday morning Mid Canada Construction reported a break and enter to a storage container on Goulais Avenue and Young Street. Generators and other items were taken.

Five Vehicles Entered

5 vehicles were entered in the last 24-hour period and in all of them either wallets or purses taken. The incidents occurred on Boston Avenue, Chapple Avenue, Silverdale Avenue and Northern Avenue. Police would again like to remind motorists not to leave items such as these in your vehicle.
