Investigation Services Lay Charges in Relation To Devil’s Night Related Mischief Incidents in the Meadow Park Crescent and Lorraine Avenue Area:

Investigation Services Detectives investigating the rash of mischief incidents that occurred overnight on the 31st of October have arrested and charged the following:

22 year-old Christopher Collins of no fixed address was arrested on the 4th of November at 5:10 pm at a residence on Capp Avenue. He has been charged with 10 counts of mischief under $5,000.00. He was scheduled to appear in bail court today.

A 16 year-old male youth was arrested 5th of November 2008 at 2:15 pm at a business on Northern Avenue, and has been charged with 10 counts of mischief under $5000.00. He is scheduled to attend court on the 16th of December 2008.

It is alleged that on the 31st of October in the early morning hours the accused males attended in the areas of Meadow Park Crescent and Lorraine Avenue and with a can of orange spray paint, spray painted graffiti on several properties, including homes and vehicles. A swastika was spray painted on the roadway in front of one of the residences on Meadow Park Crescent as well as on a vehicle trunk that was parked at a residence on Lorraine Avenue.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is still investigating similar incidents reported on Nov 3rd to Algoma University’s George Leach Centre and Anna McCrea elementary school. The Police are appealing to the public for assistance in these investigations. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Bail Court Appearance Arrest:

The only bail court appearance entry arrest this morning is a domestic related arrest. A 30 year-old male
was arrested on the 5th of November at 3:05 pm on Queen Street East and charged with three counts of breach of a release document. It is alleged that on the morning of the 5th of November the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence and at the time he was on recognizance conditions that he not communicate with her or to attend at her residence from a previous domestic related incident. Officers further discovered that the accused has moved from his previous address and he has not been residing with his surety as part of his conditions.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 34 year-old male was arrested on the 5th of November at 7:15 pm on Queen Street East and charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 4th of November at approximately 2:45 am the accused assaulted his common law spouse just outside their residence by pushing her to the ground. The victim had to attend hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault. The accused is to appear in court on the 10th of December.

Female Youth Arrested for Causing a Disturbance at Local High School:

A 15 year-old female youth was arrested on the 5th of November at 11:36 am at a local high school and charged with one count of causing a disturbance. It is alleged that members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Street team were conducting a drug investigation just outside the school and attempting to speak to some youths when the accused began to scream and swear continuously at the officers. Officers asked her to stop several times but she continued to swear at them. She is to appear in court on the 9th of December.

Mischief Reports:

A witness called city police last night around 5:10 pm after observing a male attempting to leave graffiti on the old Harvey’s Restaurant on Great Northern Road. The male was attempting to spray paint something on the rear wall of the building when the witness happened upon the scene and interrupted him. When police arrived, the suspect had already fled and they were unsuccessful in locating him when the area was searched. A small amount of red markings which appeared to be possible initials were left on the wall. The male suspect was described as being approximately 5’11” and was wearing a dark toque, a dark sweater, and a backpack. Police continue to investigate the incident.

At around 7:37 pm a resident on 41 Albert Street West called police after four male youths that were all riding bikes, threw eggs at her home.
