Truck damaged bottles stolen Damage to a delivery truck was reported from Culligan on Great Northern Road. A truck was damaged and in addition fifty to sixty empty 5 gallon water cooler bottles were stolen from the business.

Damage to a delivery truck was reported from Culligan on Great Northern Road.  A truck was damaged and in addition fifty to sixty empty 5 gallon water cooler bottles were stolen from the business.  The bottles are unsafe and not fit for use.  The public is advised not to purchase unsealed or used bottles and report any bottles offered for purchase to police. Businesses are urged to closely inspect any returned bottles for deposit refund; the stolen bottles are identified as Culligan bottles and are cracked or damaged.

Drug warrant executed

On the 22nd of November 2012, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team, Intelligence Unit and Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of John Kerhanovich, age 36 years and Heidi Debassige,  age 36 years located at 1-62 Wellington Street West, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.  During the course of the search, officers located a Psilocybin (magic mushroom) growing operation. A total of 494 grams of psilocybin was seized with an estimated street value of $9880.00

In addition, various items associated to the growing of psilocybin were recovered, including: substrate material, spore material, watering tools, containers/jars, thermometer, fluorescent light and timer.   Officers located 1 gram of cannabis marihuana, and a digital scale, along with various drug paraphernalia. As a result, Kerhanovich and Debassige were charged with production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of controlled substance (marihuana). At the time of the offences, Debassige was bound by the condition of a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behavior- as a result, she was charged further with breach of probation. 

Vehicle stolen

A vehicle was stolen from 500 block of Wilson St. It is described as a 2011 Honda Odyssey Licence ADST36 with tinted windows and a scrape on the rear right side.

Update: Armed Robbery

Officers with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are continuing an investigation into a Robbery that occurred overnight.  Early this morning just after midnight a lone male entered the Wardlaw Fuels gas bar located at 207 Wellington Street West brandishing a knife.  The male demanded that the clerk open the till.  The clerk complied and the suspect jumped the counter, took the cash from the till and left.  The suspect is described as a thin male around 5’7” tall.  He was wearing a white windbreaker type coat with a black pattern on it and a hood.  He had a green ball cap with jeans and black shoes.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Earlier Release:

On November 22, 2012 just after 12:00 am police attended at a local business in the 100 block of Wellington Street West regarding a robbery.  A lone male entered the business with a knife and robbed the attendants of money.  The culprit left by using an adjacent alley way.  OPP canine unit was called in.  The investigation is continuing.

Two arrested for shoplifting

On the 21st of November at about 3:50 p.m. officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call regarding two shoplifters at Walmart on Great Northern Road.  Upon arrival it was found that two females, 35 year old Bobbie-Jean Wilson of 344 Wellington Street East and 31 year old Shannon Boyer of 44 Grace Street had been apprehended by store security for theft.  It was determined that both females had taken various amounts of cosmetics from the store and left without paying for them.  They will both appear in court on December 17th.

Arrests/Charged Persons:

On November 21, 2012 at approximately 11:20 pm police attended a residence at the request of the mother of the accused.  It was found that the accused was on probation with a curfew and not to be in possession of any controlled drugs unless prescribed by a physician.  The accused age 14 is charged with breaching probation, breaching a conditional sentence order (court order) and possession of a controlled substance.  The young person will appear in bail court on November 22, 2012 at 10:00am.

Break and Enters/Other Property Crimes:  (Thefts, Mischief Reports, etc.):

A break in to a garage was reported in the 200 block of Doncaster Road. Taken from the garage was an 18 speed bicycle.
