The following three persons will be appearing in bail court this morning:

1) 18 year-old Curtis Malott of 110 Glen Avenue was arrested on the 14th of November at 10:50 am on Northern Avenue and charged with one count of robbery in relation to an incident that took place on the 9th of November. It is alleged that on that date at approximately 8:30 pm the accused approached three female youths that were in the parking lot of an east end convenience store and stole a bicycle belonging to one of them. The accused had advised the victim that he would shoot her and beat her up if she didn’t give him the bike. There were no injuries and no weapons were produced.

2) A 16 year-old male youth was arrested on the 14th of November at 10:57 am at a local high school and charged with one count of defamatory libel and two counts of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is alleged that on the 5th of November the accused was on the internet on the school computer and typed out documents in regards to another fellow student committing a criminal offence and other derogatory comments to injure the reputation, insult and ridicule the victim. The accused distributed copies of the document to several students at the school. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

3) A 15 year-old male youth was arrested on the 14th of November at 11:10 pm at a local youth home and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00 and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is alleged that on the 14th of November the accused kicked a hole in a bedroom wall at the youth home. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

More Arrested in Connection with Break & Enter

A second male has been arrested in connection to the break and enter to the Easy Home Business on Churchill Boulevard on the 6th of November:

City police conducting an investigation into a break and enter to the Easy Home Business on the 6th of November, have arrested one of the male adults that was wanted in regards to this incident:
20 year-old Norman Lund of 10 Donna Drive was arrested on the 6th of November at 2:17 pm at his residence and charged with one count of break and enter and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
It is alleged that on the 6th of November at approximately 2 am the accused attended with two other adult males to the Easy Home Business on Churchill Boulevard, broke in and stole three flat screen televisions valued at approximately $2,780.00. The three left the store in a vehicle with the televisions.
The identities of the other two male suspects are known to police and they continue to try to locate them.


The second male charged is:
34 year-old Wade Horsfall of 5 Wildwood Drive, Rupert Acres, Heyden was arrested on the 14th of November at 10:30 am at the city police station and charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. He is to appear in court on the 17th of December.

The following break and enters were reported yesterday:

1) A residence on Carpin Beach Road was entered on the 14th of November sometime between 2 pm - 5:30 pm. Some jewellery was reported stolen.

2) There was an attempt break and enter to the Mr. Submarine on Trunk Road at approximately 7:53 am of the 14th of November. No entry was gained.

3) A residence on Pointe Louise Drive was entered sometime between the 9th and the 13th of November. Nothing appears to have been taken.

Motor Vehicle Collision

City police attended at a motor vehicle collision on the 14th of November at 9:04 pm at the intersection of Goulais Avenue and East Balfour Street that sent five persons to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that a Pontiac Sunfire turned left from East Balfour onto Goulais Avenue into the path of a Chev pick up that had been travelling southbound on Goulais Avenue. After the pick up collided with the Pontiac it veered up over the curb and sidewalk and struck a tree.
The 19 year-old driver and four passengers, three males and one female –all ranging from 17-18 years of age, that were in the Pontiac Sunfire attended at the hospital for their injuries.
The vehicles were severely damaged.
The driver of the Pontiac Sunfire, 18 year-old Tyler Gregorchuk of 195 Maple Street was charged with one count of fail to yield to traffic on through highway under the Highway Traffic Act.

FRAUD CHARGES LAID AGAINST FORMER EMPLOYEE OF MINISTRY OF SOCIAL SERVICES

A JOINT INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED BY THE SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE AND THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL SERVICES HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND AS A RESULT ON THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER AT 10:00 AM 48 YEAR-OLD SALVATORE CUGLIETTA OF 14 DONNA DRIVE WAS ARRESTED AT THE CITY POLICE STATION BY THE FRAUD UNIT AND CHARGED WITH ONE COUNT OF FRAUD OVER $5,000.00.
IT IS ALLEGED THAT THE ACCUSED, A FORMER EMPLOYEE FOR THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL SERVICES, DEFRAUDED THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL SERVICES OF APPROXIMATELY $585,413.83.00 ON OR BETWEEN OCTOBER 1994 THROUGH TO DECEMBER 2006. THE ALLEGED FRAUD WAS COMMITTED BY CREATING A FALSE CLIENT/CLAIM AND RECEIVING FICTITIOUS ONTARIO DISABILITY SUPPORT PROGRAM BENEFITS AND PAYMENTS TO THE FRAUDULENT FILE.

SALVATORE CUGLIETTA IS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN COURT ON MONDAY DECEMBER 17, 2007
