Two males arrested on robbery charges

Last night at approx. 11:15 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police Service was called to attend a residence on Gloucester St. regarding a robbery. Police spoke to a male person that advised that he was assaulted and robbed by three males. This victim reported that a sweater was stolen from him. At approx. 11:45 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police Service was once again called to investigate a robbery complaint. This incident occurred on Cathcart St. near Brown St. In this incident a male was assaulted and robbed of a silver chain.
As a result of quick response and the assistance of the public the police were able to arrest two male persons. Arrested are:
1. Justin McKay, age 20, of 226 Cathcart St. He is charged with one count of robbery, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation.
2. A 17-year-old male. This accused is charged with two count of robbery, two counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of breach of probation and one count of public mischief.
The victim of the first robbery suffered minor injuries but did not attend for medical treatment.

Youth arrested for failing to appear in court

Early yesterday morning city police arrested a 17-year-old male on four outstanding warrants. It is alleged that the accused male failed to appear for court on April 28th. The accused is charged with one count of fail to appear in court, one count of breach of an undertaking, one count of fail to appear for identification. The youth was originally arrested in November 2007 on charges of theft under $ 5,000.00 and possession of property obtained by crime. He will be appearing in court this morning.

Two youth arrested for taken vehicle without consent

At approx. 8:20 pm yesterday evening city police were called to a west end address regarding a vehicle being taken without consent. At approx 10:00 pm police located two young females in the vehicle. As a result the two girls were arrested and charged.
1. A 15-year-old female was arrested and charged with one count of take vehicle without consent and one count of breach of probation.
2. A 14-year-old female was arrested and charged with one count of take vehicle without consent.
The vehicle was returned to the owner. Both accused will be appearing in court on July 8th.

Male arrested for theft under $ 5,000.00

Yesterday morning city police were called to the A& P Store located at 248 Northern Ave regarding a male shoplifter. Upon arrival officers arrested the accused male. It is alleged that the accused entered the store, selected several meat items and then concealed the items under his shirt before walking out of the store. Charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000.00 is Andrew Chikoski, age 28, of 155 Glasgow Ave. He will be appearing in court on June 30th.

Female arrested for theft and possession of stolen property

Yesterday afternoon city police arrested a 40-year-old female and charged her with one count of theft under $ 5,000.00, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of possession of stolen debit card. It is alleged that May 4th 2008 the accused attended at the residence of the victim and stole her debit card. It is further alleged that the accused then used the debit card on six different occasions to obtain in excess of
$ 3,000.00. Charged is Theresa Palmer, age 40, of 1055 Peoples Rd. apt # 2. She will be appearing in court on June 30th.

Harassing phone calls arrest

Yesterday afternoon city police arrested a 32-year-old female and charged her with one count of harassing phone calls. It is alleged that the accused made several harassing phone calls to her ex-boyfriend. The phone calls allegedly were made on Feb 8th, May 7th, May 19th and May 27th 2008. The accused will be appearing in court on June 4th.

Break and Enters

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received three reports of break and enters yesterday.

1. The Sear Department Store located in the Station Mall was entered at approx. 6:15 am yesterday morning. Two suspects were seen fleeing the scene. The suspects obtained an unknown quantity of jewellery.

2. A residence in the 900 block of Pine St. was entered. It is believed that nothing was obtained.

3. Three youths were seen attempting tom break into a rear shed at a residence in the 400 block of Wallace Terr.

Thefts

A large quantity of copper and aluminum were stolen from the city landfill site. It was reported that in excess of 2 tons of metal was stolen. The value of the metal is believed to be approx. $ 6,000.00.

Fire

At approx. 2:00 am this morning the Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Sault Ste Marie Fire Services responded to a fire at the rear of the Market Mall, 275 Second Line W. Upon arrival the city police and fire departments located boxes and furniture on fire at the rear of the building. The fire department extinguished the fire before it could cause any damage. The buildings were not damage. Several youths were seen leaving the area prior to the arrival of the police.

Mischief

A garage at the rear of a residence in the 200 block of Brown St. was damaged. It was reported that the garaged was punctured, slashed and spray painted with graffiti.
