House Fire

Just before 2 am this morning emergency personnel from the Police Service and Fire Service attended at a home in the 100 block of Grace Street for a house fire. Officers and Fire Fighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. The streets in the immediate area were closed off but have since been opened, with the exception of Grace Street between Elgin Street and Bruce Street. Officers from the Investigation Services Section from the City Police were called out and are currently investigating this fire, which is suspected to be suspicious in nature. City Police are awaiting the arrival of an Inspector from the City Fire Service. None of the occupants were injured in the fire, however the damage to the home appears to be extensive. City Police are asking anyone who has any knowledge of this suspicious fire, or who may have been in the area of the fire and witnessed anything, to contact them at 949-6300.

Four Break and Enters

1)A 17-year old youth will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday just before noon hour yesterday on outstanding warrants. The charges on the warrant were for three counts of fail to appear for court and one count of break and enter and commit an offence.

2)Yesterday afternoon thieves attempted to break into a home in the 100 block of Henrietta but may have been scared off by the large dog inside the residence. Entry was not gained to the home.

3)A homeowner in the 400 block of Albert St W reported a break and enter to their residence. Thieves gained entry and made off with electronics, a sound system, leather jacket, leather pants and jewellery.

4)A home in the 100 block of Wellington Street West was entered last evening and a JVC portable stereo was taken.
Yesterday a homeowner also reported thieves attempted to break into a home in the 100 block of Autumn Drive but were unsuccessful.

Yesterday’s news:

The female driver of a red 4-door vehicle is being asked to contact the City Police Traffic Services office. Around 12:30 pm yesterday a 14-year old male was walking his bike southbound across the crosswalk at Wellington Street East and Pine Street. A red car operated by a female driver was on Wellington Street East facing west and proceeded to turn onto Pine Street and struck the pedestrian walking his bike in the crosswalk. The driver did stop and ask the pedestrian if he was alright and then left the area. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital by a family member for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. If you are the driver contact Traffic Services at 949-6300.

Update:

The Sault Ste. Marie Traffic Services advises that the female driver in the above incident has contacted that office and the investigation is ongoing.
