The Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Traffic Section is requesting the assistance of the public in solving a hit and run motor vehicle collision that is currently under investigation.

Around 11:30 am this morning at the intersection of Bay Street and Huron Street a red car was traveling eastbound on Bay Street in the south lane when an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on Huron Street changed into the eastbound south side lane of Bay Street. This resulted in the red car being struck by the unknown vehicle. As a result of the collision the red car veered off the roadway into a light standard on Bay Street. The driver of the red car received minor injuries but did not require medical treatment at this time. The red car was severely damaged in the collision. Information regarding the driver of the red car is not being released at this time pending further investigation. There is no description of the hit and run vehicle at this time. Male Charged with Mischief

25-year old male was arrested last night just after 10 pm and charged with one count of mischief and one count of criminal harassment. It is alleged that the accused attended at his ex-girlfriends west end residence and damaged several bowls and plates as well as a coffee machine. During the course of the investigation officers also learned that between February 27th and the current date the accused has been repeatedly communicating with the victim by making phone calls, sending e-mails and stopping by the complainants residence after being warned by City Police on several other occasions to not communicate with the victim.

Assault Charges Laid Against Male

49-year old Kevin Thibodeau of 772 Wellington Street East #205 was arrested last evening after City Police received a call regarding Mr. Thibodeau assaulting another male in the downtown area. It is alleged that the accused assaulted the victim by punching him in the face, kicking the victim in the leg and throwing rocks at the victim. When officers attended in the area to arrest the accused he fought with the police before being taken into custody. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and one count of resist arrest.

Youth Charged with Theft

A 16-year old and 17-year old youth were arrested last evening after it is alleged they stole a bottle of rum from the LCBO store in the Station Mall. Both accused were apprehended by City Police in the downtown area shortly after the theft occurred. The 16-year old youth was also on a release document with conditions not to possess alcohol and not to be with the co-accused in addition to being on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The 16-year old youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000, two counts of breach of a release order, one count of breach of probation and will appear in bail court. The 17-year old youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on July 12th.

Male Charged with Criminal Harassment

A 54-year old male was arrested last evening after his ex-girlfriend attended at the Police Station and filed a complaint against him. It is alleged that between February 1st and June 8th the accused has followed the victim on several dates to various locations and confronted the victim. It is also alleged that the accused has been hanging around the victim’s place of employment. On the 6th of June it is alleged that the accused approached the victim in the downtown area and assaulted her by grabbing her by the arms. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and one count of criminal harassment and will appear in court on July 11th.

Theft under 5,000

City Police arrested a 14-year old youth yesterday afternoon after it is alleged the youth stole a t-shirt from Music World in the Station Mall. The accused was apprehended by store employees and turned over to City Police. Officers also learned that the accused has stolen a DVD as well. During the course of the investigation officers also learned that the bike the accused was using was stolen. At the time of the offences the accused was on a release document with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of breach of a release document and will appear in court on July 12th.

4 reports of break and enters:

1) A home in the 100 block of Montgomery Avenue was entered during the nighttime and a purse with its contents was taken.

2) A residence in the 100 block of Boundary Road was entered but nothing was taken.

3) A home in the 200 block of Beverly Street was entered but nothing was taken.

4) A shed in the 100 block of Dacey Rd was entered but it does not appear that anything was taken.
