Four Persons in Custody Regarding Stolen Vehicle and Failing to Stop for Police

Last evening at approximately 10:23 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a report regarding a stolen vehicle from the Market Mall parking lot. At 11:23 pm officers observed the stolen 1997 Honda Civic with four occupants inside, travelling at a high rate of speed on Rossmore Road. Officers attempted to stop it and the driver failed to stop and accelerated away. Officers pursued the vehicle to the Great Northern Road area and during this time, the driver failed to stop for several stop signs and a red light at Fourth Line East and Great Northern Road. At this time, police received information from their Communication Dispatch Centre regarding the identity of the suspects and the pursuit was discontinued. A short time later, the O.P.P. advised that they had located the stolen vehicle abandoned in the Searchmont area at the residence of one of the suspects. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Canine Unit attended to assist the O.P.P. in searching the area for the suspects. A short canine track resulted in the arrest of the suspect driver without further incident. The other suspects were located and arrested in the Wishart Park on Fourth Line East.

All are to appear in bail court this morning and have been charged with following offences

1) The 16 year-old male youth driver has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of dangerous operation of motor vehicle, one count of flight from police and one count of breach of probation.
2) A female adult, 19 year-old Ashley Hall of 69 Pittsburgh Avenue has been charged with one count of possession of stolen property.
3) A 16 year-old female youth was charged with one count of possession of stolen property and two counts of breach of probation
4) A 16 year-old male was charged with one count of possession of stolen property.

Break and Enters

• A residence on Goulais Avenue was entered over the past weekend. Two snowboards, an X-Box, an iPod docking station and clothing were reported stolen.
• An attempt break and enter was reported to a residence on Cellular Street around 5:13 am this morning. For males, one wearing a balaclava were observed fleeing on foot. Police checked the area with negative results.

Thefts

• Vehicles were gone through in the areas of Borron Avenue, Second Line West and on Princess Crescent. A digital camera and an iPhone with the battery charger and blue tooth were reported stolen.
• Welding and Booster Cables were reported stolen from a business property in the 1700 block of Great Northern Road.

Mischief Reports

• A mailbox on St. James Street was vandalized.
