Several Charges Laid

A 49 year-old male was arrested on the 23rd of January at 3:15 pm on Albert Street West and charged with three counts of threaten death or bodily harm, three count so f breach of probation and one count of personation with intent. It is alleged that one the 23rd of January at approximately 11:35 am the accused contacted his ex-girlfriend by phone and threatened to kill her and a friend of hers and to burn her house down. When police arrested him they discovered there was an outstanding warrant for the accused regarding threatening the same victim during the first week of November. It is alleged that the victim was ending the relationship and the accused threatened to kill her and friends of hers if she left him. He threatened to destroy her home and vehicle and other personal property. At the time of the incidents the accused was on probation with conditions that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour and that he not communicate with the victim. When officers located him on Albert Street West he falsely identified himself in attempts to evade being arrested on his outstanding warrant.

Assault

A 35 year-old male was arrested on the 23rd of January at 9:50 pm at his residence and charged with one count assault. It is alleged that on the 23rd of January at approximately 9 pm the accused got into a verbal argument with his wife at their residence and assaulted her by grabbing her around the neck, grabbing her by the hair when she fell on the floor and dragging her. There were no injuries reported.

Break and Enters

There were two break and enters reported overnight:
1) A residence on Fourth Line West was entered at approximately 4:40 pm on the 23rd of January. Jewellery was reported stolen.
2) A garage on Airport Road was entered between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm. Nothing was reported taken.

Collision on Bruce

City police attended at a motor vehicle collision on the 23rd of January that occurred around 4 pm on Bruce Street that sent one male to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that the driver of a Chev pick up that was travelling northbound on Bruce Street attempted to turn into a driveway, cutting off a Volkswagon that was travelling southbound on Bruce Street, resulting in the collision. The 31 year-old male driver of the Volkswagon was the driver injured in the collision. The driver of the Chev pick up, 76 year-old Mario Diodati of 31 Cathcart Street was charged with one count of turn not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontatio. The pick up truck was moderately damage while the Volkswagon was severely damaged.

Several Charges Laid

On January 23, 2008 Investigation Services officers arrested 54 year old Mario Florent Roussel of 12 River Crescent Shetland Trailer Park, Aweres Township. Roussel has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of indecent exposure, two counts of invitation to sexual touching of person under the age of fourteen, two counts of sexual interference and eight counts of procuring.

It is alleged that between July 1, 2007 and January 18th 2008 the accused obtained for consideration the sexual services of three persons under the age of 18 years on eight separate occasions. It is further alleged that during that same time period the accused committed the offences of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, indecent exposure and sexual assault as one of the persons involved in the procuring was under the age of fourteen. The alleged offences took place in the city of Sault Ste. Marie and in Aweres Township.
The accused is to appear in bail court today.

Reminder to Motorists

City police have received three separate complaints of motorists passing school buses in the city when the buses have stopped with the red flashing lights activated either picking up or dropping off children.
Drivers are reminded that whether on a city street, highway or a country road, regardless of the speed limit in the area or the number of lanes, all drivers of motor vehicles must stop when approaching a stopped school bus with its upper red lights are flashing. A flashing stop arm will extend out while passengers are boarding or leaving the bus. Once all passengers have boarded or are safely away from the bus the stop arm will fold away. Do not start moving until the red lights have stopped flashing and the bus begins to move.

Penalties for not stopping:

First offence: $400 to $2000 and six demerit points.
Each subsequent offence: $1000 to $4000, six demerit points and possible jail time up to six months.
