Armed Robbery at Savoy’s Jewellers: Officers with the Sault Ste.

Armed Robbery at Savoy’s Jewellers:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Investigations Unit, Patrol Services and the Emergency Services Unit arrested 27 year-old Micheal Dustin BURGESS of Chilliwack British Columbia (no fixed address) last night at 183 Albert Street East in relation to the armed robbery at Savoy’s Jewellers.  It is alleged that on the 11th of January at approximately 4:28 pm the accused attended at Savoy’s Jewellers at 290 Queen Street East, gave the clerk a bag and demanded it be filled with watches from the display case. 

The accused made motions indicating that he had a weapon in the waistband of his pants and the employee ran to the back of the store to alert other staff members. The accused fled the store empty handed with a staff member in pursuit.  The foot chase proceeded into the alleyway from Queen Street towards Dennis Street. 

During the pursuit, the accused pulled a handgun from his pants and fired approximately 4 shots at the staff member.  The pursuit continued and the accused was observed running into the apartment building at the corner of Dennis Street and Albert Street East.  The residence was contained by the Emergency Services Unit and Patrol Services.  The Investigation Unit continued the investigation and the accused was later arrested later without further incident.  There were no injuries reported during the incident.   

At the time of his arrest, the accused was found in possession of a small amount of cocaine.  As a result he has been charged with one count of robbery with a firearm and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. 

Further charges are pending and he is to appear in bail court this morning.

Domestic Related Arrest:

On the 11th January at approximately 7:50 pm, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Church Street and at the time, they found a male in the company of a female that he was not to be with due to previous domestic related charges.  The male was also bound by the conditions of a recognizance order to remain outside of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, remain in his residence between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. except in the presence of his surety. 

As a result, the 32 year-old male was arrested and charged with three counts of breach of recognizance.  At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of some morphine tablets and was also charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance.  The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $600.00.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning. 

Male Arrested for Sexual Assault:

Investigation Services officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 31 year-old Dennis Beilhartz of 705 Shafer Avenue on the 11th of January at 4:15 pm at his residence and charged him with on count of sexual assault.  It is alleged that at approximately 2 am on the 3rd of January 2012, the accused sexually assaulted a female known to him at his residence.  The accused is to appear in bail court this morning. 

Shoplifting Charge

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 42 year-old Nicolo Sardo of 167 Tancred Street on the 11th of January at 3:12 pm at Sears in the Station Mall and charged him with one count of theft under $5,000.00.  It is alleged that on the 11th of January the accused attended at Sears and stole a bottle of cologne valued at $87.00.  The accused was apprehended by store security and held for police.  He is to appear in court on the 6th of February. 

Break and Enter/Theft Reports:

  • A residence on Bellevue Avenue was entered last night. Jewellery, cash and an Apple Pro Notebook Laptop were reported taken.
  • A residence on St. Basils Drive was entered around 4 pm yesterday.  A Play Station 3 and some games were reported stolen. 
  • A bike was stolen from Northland Road. 

Mischief Reports:   

  • A bus shelter window was broken on Queen Street West.
  • A PUC Pole was reported damaged on Maki Road.
