Vehicle collisions: The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded today to three separate motor vehicle collisions that resulted in injuries. At approximately 10:55 a.m. a collision was reported at the intersection of Queen and Brock Streets.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded today to three separate motor vehicle collisions that resulted in injuries. At approximately 10:55 a.m. a collision was reported at the intersection of Queen and Brock Streets.  A vehicle travelling westbound made a left turn and collided with a pedestrian walking in the crosswalk.  Injuries to the pedestrian were described as minor.  81 year old Clair Nott of Ferguson Avenue was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to yield to pedestrian.

A motor vehicle collision was reported at 2:00 p.m. at the intersection Queen and Gore Streets.  No injuries were reported but the damage to one of the vehicles was moderate.  18 year old Ashley Culina of Second Line West was charged with failing to stop for a red light under the Highway Traffic Act.

A third collision was reported at 2:19 p.m. at the intersection of Queen St. E. and Simpson Streets. Three persons were transported to hospital with minor injuries.  A southbound vehicle on Simpson Street travelled into the path of a westbound vehicle on Queen Street East.  38 year old Shirley Yolkowskie of Elliot Lake was charged with fail to yield to traffic on through highway under the Highway Traffic Act.

Traffic Disruption Expected Tomorrow:

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received notification of two protests that will occur tomorrow and may result in traffic disruptions. 

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has advised that they are planning a peaceful protest that will take place between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the area of M.P.P. David Orazietti’s office located at 432 Great Northern Road.  Disruption to traffic is expected to be minimal and we urge motorists to be aware of an increased number of pedestrians in the area during that time frame.

In addition, a local group claiming affiliation to the idle no more movement has advised of a planned protest that will take place on Queen Street East beginning at 1:00 p.m. and ending at M.P. Brian Hayes office located at 369 Queen Street East Residents can expect traffic disruptions on Queen Street East between East Street and Elgin Street tomorrow.  Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes to their destinations as the disruption to traffic in this area is expected to last for several hours.  Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be on scene monitoring both gatherings to ensure the safety of all members of the public.

Arrest:

23 year old Joseph Fitzgerald of 13 Fisher Trailer Park, Trout Lake was arrested yesterday on outstanding warrants for two counts of breach of probation and one count of unlawfully at large.  He will appear in bail court this morning at 10 am.
