City Police have been responding to a number of motor vehicle collisions due to weather conditions and would like to remind motorists to take a number of steps to increase their safety during the dark winter months. Simple things such as keeping their vehicles maintained, planning journeys and adapting their driving techniques to suit road and weather conditions may help. They also need to ensure that they are prepared to deal with all types of situations. By planning ahead and being aware of their surroundings, they can help to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and injuries during the winter months.

Car Accidnets Due To Icy Roads

8 motor vehicle collisions were reported in the last 24 hours. In one incident a 38-year-old female was taken to the hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. She was the driver of a green Chevy, which was north bound on Church Street and went through a red light at Wellington Street East. Her vehicle struck beige Mazda that was traveling eastbound. She has been charged with 1 count of Red Light Fail To Stop under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Threatening Death & Causing a Disturbance

Yesterday evening just after 8 pm an intoxicated male was at the Station Mall and taken into custody by mall security. The male threatened to return to the mall and kill the security officer. City Police responded and arrested 40-year-old Mark Todd Irwin of 264 Wellington Street East. He was charged with 1 count of Threatening Death and 1 count of Causing a Disturbance. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 15th.

Youth Charged with Assault with a Weapon

A 16-year-old youth has been charged with 1 count of Assault with a Weapon from an incident that occurred on the 29th of November. It’s believed that the youth assaulted another male in the west end of the city with a pipe causing swelling and a cut to the face. The youth is to appear in court on the 16th of January.

Youth Charged with Stealing from Sears

At 4:30 yesterday afternoon a 15-year-old youth was apprehended at Sears Department Store for stealing a pair of jeans. It’s believed that the youth placed a pair of jeans inside a jacket and then attempted to leave the store without making any attempt to pay for the item. The youth was taken into custody and police were called. This person has been charged with 1 count of Theft Under $5000 and 1 count of Breach of Probation and is to appear in Bail Court today. The youth was on a release document to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
