Public’s assistance required in locating witnesses to a Motor vehicle collision:

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating any witnesses to a motor vehicle collision that occurred this morning at 6:40 am at the intersection of Great Northern Rd. and Second Line E. In the incident a westbound blue Grand AM was struck by a northbound silver Toyota pickup. The police are requesting that anyone that may have seen the collision and/ or noticed the colour of the traffic signal lights to call the Traffic Services Office at 949-6300.
The driver of the blue Grand AM was transported to the Sault Area Hospital with minor injuries.

Three persons to appear in bail court:

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 28-year-old female for theft under $ 5,000.00. It is alleged that at approximately 3:00 pm on December 30th the accused attended at the Food Basics Store on Pine St. and stole a quantity of vitamin pills. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to city police. It is further alleged that the accused was wanted for several warrants dating back to April 2007. Darlynn Blackbird, age 28 of 7 Gladstone Ave is charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000.00, one count of failing to appear for identification, three counts of failing to appear in court, one count of failing to comply with an undertaking, one count of failing to comply with a recognizance, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 57-year-old male for several warrants. It is alleged that between June 2006 and September 2008, the accused Gerald Chretien, age 57, of 17 Terry Fox Place, Apt # 4 committed the offences of fraud, false pretences, failing to comply with a recognizance and failing to appear in court. Mr. Chretien is charged with one count of failing to appear for court, one count of breach of a recognizance, four counts of fraud and four counts of false pretences.

Early this morning members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 28-year-old female for breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused breached three conditions of her probation order release by attending at an address she was prohibited from, communicating with a person she was not to communicate with and by not keeping the peace. Cassie Woodcox, age 28 of 13 Fishers Trailer Park, Heyden is charged with three counts of breach of probation.

Male arrested for theft under $ 5,000:

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 25-year-old male for theft under $ 5,000.00. It is alleged that the accused entered the Zellers Store in the Station Mall and stole a bottle of
Gator-Aid. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to city police, Shawn Potvin, age 25 of 539 Douglas St. is charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and is to appear in court on January 31st at 9:00 am.

Female arrested for attempt break and enter:

Yesterday evening members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 28-year-old female for attempted break and enter. It is alleged that on December 28th the accused attended at the victim’s address and attempted to force a door to gain entry. The accused was frightened off by neighbours and police were called. Yesterday evening at approximately 9:30 pm the accused was located by police and arrested. Jennifer O’Neill, age 28, of 819 Trunk Rd. Apt # 211 was arrested and charged with one count of attempted break and enter. Ms. O’Neill is to appear in court on February 7th at 9:00 am..

Property crimes:

Break and enter:

At approximately 2:50 am today city police were called to a break and enter at a residence in the 100 block of Edinburgh St. It is unknown what was taken at this time as the incident is still being investigated.

Theft:

City police received a report of hockey equipment being stolen from the Pee Wee Arena early this morning.
