Two Persons Will Appear in Bail Court This Morning

1) Last evening officers attended at a downtown address in regards to a domestic dispute. It is alleged that a 44-year old male assaulted his common law wife by grabbing her by the neck and throwing her on the bed. The accused was arrested and charged with one count of assault.

2) Yesterday afternoon officers arrested 21-year old Kevoughn Alleyne of 1-110 Breton Road and charged him with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. On the 13th of August officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists of officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Section, the Ontario Provincial Police North East Region and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, executed a warrant at the accused’s address. Officers located a Nikon camera, which had been stolen from a residence outside of the city during a break and enter.

Two 16-year olds Arrested

Two 16-year old youths were arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with several offences. It is alleged that one of the youths had several items of clothing from Winners on Great Northern Road that had not paid for in an east end residence. As a result police were called. This youth was charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and will appear in court on October 10th. While officers were dealing with the first youth they also learned that a second youth was in the home. This youth was on a release document with conditions not to be with the first youth as well as to keep the peace and be good. While a the police station it is alleged that the second youth smashed the prisoners phone that is used to contact a lawyer, breaking it. This youth was charged with one count of breach of a release order, two counts of breach of a peace bond and one count of mischief under $5,000. This youth will appear in court on October 3rd.

Motor Vehicle Accident on Queen & Brock

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 4:40 pm emergency personnel from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Sault Fire Services and Sault Ambulance Services attended at the intersection of Queen Street East and Brock Street for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A vehicle operated by a 66-year old female was stopped on Brock Street facing south. A car operated by a 39-year old female was westbound on Queen Street East. A van operated by a 45-year old male was northbound on Brock Street. It is alleged that the westbound car proceeded through a red light and struck the northbound van. The van then slid onto it’s side and struck the vehicle that had been stopped on Brock Street facing south. The driver of the van was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both the car and van that had been moving received severe damage. Damage reports to the vehicle that was struck by the sliding van are not available at the time of this release. The investigation is continuing.

More Bear Sightings

There were several calls regarding bears in the last 24 hour period:

1) Yesterday morning both City Police and MNR officials attended on West Perth Bay regarding a bear eating garbage. The MNR has set a trap in the area.

2) Last evening a bear was reported in the west end area of town near Estelle Street, Devon Road area, and Laura Street. Both the MNR and City Police responded to this call and a trap has also been set in the area.

3) There were two reports early this morning both around 4:30 am, of a bear in the central area of town. A bear was seen in the area of Pine and McNabb Street and shortly after this sighting a second one was reported on McNabb Street east of Great Northern Road.
