Break & Enter Suspect Caught Yesterday evening city police officers attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre at 800 Great Northern Rd and arrested a 19-year-old male and charged him with one count of break and enter.

Yesterday evening city police officers attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre at 800 Great Northern Rd and arrested a 19-year-old male and charged him with one count of break and enter. It is alleged that on October 25th 2004 the accused person broke into a residence in the 900 block of Wellington St.E.
DNA samples were located at the scene and kept on file. Earlier this week the Sault Ste Marie Police Service was able to match the samples to the accused. At the time of the offence the accused was a young person and will be charged as such. The accused will be appearing in bail court.

Break & Enter, Assault with a Weapon and Breach

Yesterday morning city police arrested a 17-year-old youth and charged him with one count of break and enter, one count of assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the youth did on January 15th 2005 break and enter a business known as “A Tea to Remember” located at 268 Wellington St. E. It is further alleged that on March 30th 2007 the accused used a shovel to assault a male on Pim St. At the time of both these incidents the Sault Ste Marie Police Service was able to obtain DNA samples at the scene. The samples were subsequently stored in the national data bank and were recently matched to this accused. At the time of both of these offences the accused was on probation. He will be appearing in bail court.

Impaired Driving

At approx. 9:20 pm last night city police attended at Lyons Ave regarding a vehicle in the ditch. Upon arrival officers spoke to the driver and observed that he was under the influence of alcohol. The driver 41-year-old Kevin Johnson, of 1316 Third Line W. is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive with over 80mgs. He will be appearing in court on Sept. 24th.

Assault at the Nicolet

At approx. 10:45 pm last night city police were called to the Nicolet Tavern regarding an assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim who advised that while sitting in his vehicle he was assaulted by an unknown male. The assault was unprovoked and the victim required medical attention for injuries to his face. At approx. 3:30 am the accused person turned himself in at the city police station. Charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm is 41-year-old Greg Solomon, of 6 Dreamcatcher Rd. in Garden River. He will be appearing in court on Sept 24th.

Assault

At approx. 5:00 am this morning city police officers arrested a 31-year-old male and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that at approx. 2:00 am this morning the accused and his common-law partner were involved in an argument. The accused then allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat and punched him in the mouth. Victim suffered minor injuries to his mouth. The accused will be appearing in bail court today.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received three reports of mischief yesterday.

Residences in the 100 block of Wellington St. E. and the 100 block of Market St. had windows broken. Notre Dame Des Ecoles School located at 600 North St. also had three of its windows broken.

Police received two complaints of theft from vehicles yesterday.

A car parked in the 100 block of Edmonds Ave was entered and the car stereo was stolen. A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Palomino Dr. was entered and thieves stole a digital camera, an I-pod and a laptop computer.

ROBBERY - NORTHERN CREDIT UNION
264 MCNABB ST.


On the 12th of February 1999 at approximately 12:55 p.m. a male armed with a small silver handgun approached a teller at the Northern Credit Union at 264 McNabb Street and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of money was taken during this robbery.

The robber was described as a white male approximately six feet tall, slim build, wearing white Reebok running shoes with blue lettering, white jean style pants, navy blue ski type jacket, white toque and sunglasses. The male exited the rear of the Credit Union and was last seen running northbound towards Chapple Street.
