Shoplifting Incidents Results in Charges: Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 38 year-old Laura Williams of 549 Cathcart Street last night and charged her with two counts of theft under $5,000,00.

Shoplifting Incidents Results in Charges:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 38 year-old Laura Williams of 549 Cathcart Street last night and charged her with two counts of theft under $5,000,00.  It is alleged that on the 10th of March the accused attended at the Mac’s Convenience Store at 647 Second Lie West and stole some items.  Further, on the 31st of March, the accused attended at the Metro on Second Line West and left the store without paying for merchandise. The accused is to appear in court on the 7th of May.

Search Warrant Results in Drug Trafficking Charges:  

On the 4th of April, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Street Team and Patrol Services executed a search warrant at 104 Second Line West.  During the course of the search, officers located 140 grams of marihuana, 14.5 oxycodone (percocet) tablets, 3 cannabis resin spliffs/cigarettes, 4 digital scales, various packaging materials, a quantity of cash, various drug paraphernalia and a container of pepper spray.   

As a result, the resident, 25 year-old John Steven Bennett was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose to the public.  The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $2884.00.  The accused is to appear in court on the 7th of May.

Break and Enter/Theft Reports:

  • A residence on Walnut Street was broken into sometime overnight on the 2nd of April.  A suitcase, keys and jewellery were reported stolen.
  • A residence on Elmwood Avenue was broken into yesterday morning. 
  • A residence on Sackville Road was broken into last week.  A television and a Tassimo coffee maker was stolen. 
  • A residence on Meadowside Avenue was broken into during the past week.  Credit cards were reported stolen.
