Double Murder: UPDATE Just before 4:00 am on the 20th of April alert Patrol Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service observed a car in the southwest corner of Greenwoods Cemetery located at the corner of Peoples Road and Fourth Line East.
Double Murder: UPDATE

Just before 4:00 am on the 20th of April alert Patrol Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service observed a car in the southwest corner of Greenwoods Cemetery located at the corner of Peoples Road and Fourth Line East. Officers entered the cemetery to check out the suspicious vehicle.

The driver of the car then tried to evade the police within the cemetery yard. When officers activated their roof lights to stop the vehicle the vehicle accelerated away from the cruiser, but did eventually stop with the male driver running from the vehicle and fleeing into a ravine area in the most south-west part of this section of the cemetery.

The male was apprehended without incident after a short foot pursuit. The male was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving. When officers checked the vehicle the accused had fled from they discovered the bodies of a female adult and a young male child. The male was subsequently charged with two counts of murder. The victims were pronounced dead by the coroner who attended at the scene.

City Police secured a large section of the cemetery this morning and have processed this crime scene including the vehicle. The area has now been released and this part of the investigation has concluded.

33-year old Albert Francis Ouimet of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of impaired driving and one count of breach of probation. Mr. Ouimet has been remanded and will appear in bail court tomorrow morning at 10 am.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of death has not been determined at this point and autopsies will be conducted.

Bodies Found In West End

Around 4:00 am this morning City Police discovered two bodies in the cities west end. Police currently have 1 male in custody. Officers from Investigation Services and the Forensic Unit have been called out. This is an ongoing investigation in its preliminary stages. No further details are being released at this time.

Assault

On the 19th of April shortly before 9am 26-year-old Martin Simone Vine of 109 Careful Avenue, assaulted a male known to him. It is alleged that the accused and the victim became involved in a verbal argument at 109 Careful Avenue apartment #5. The accused Martin Vine then proceeded to choke the victim from behind. The victim fled the scene and called police from a neighboring apartment. City Police responded and the accused was arrested. Martin Vine has been charged with 1 count of Assault and 1 count of Breach of release document.
He is to appear in court on May 29th.

Impaired Driver

City Police stopped a vehicle at approximately 3:25 am on the 19th of April on Albert Street West. A check of the driver revealed him to be a Prohibited Driver. Upon speaking to the driver officers observed that he was impaired and arrested him at the scene. The driver was on a probation order not to consume any alcohol. 42-year-old Robert Brent Mackay of 120 Mackay Road Bruce Mines has been charged with 1 count of Operate Vehicle while Disqualified-court order, 1 count of Consume over the Legal Limit, and 1 count of Breach of Probation Order. He is to appear in court on the 29th of May.
