Possession of Stolen Property, Mischief and More

23 year-old Jeffrey Gardener of #401-539 Trunk Road was arrested on the 17th of April at 1:44 am on Dacey Road and charged with one count of mischief, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of assault peace officer and one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Mac’s Convenience Store on Dacey Road and stole some chips and fled on foot. Police attended and located the accused in the area a short time later. When the accused was being arrested he spat at the officers and in the rear of the cruiser on route to the police station. He is to appear in court on the 26th of May.

Breach and Mischief

43 year-old Andrew Swan of no fixed address was arrested on the 16th of April at 7:48 pm at the Sault Area Hospital at and charged with one count breach of probation and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 16th of April at approximately 7:40 pm the accused, while waiting for treatment in one of the Emergency rooms, damaged medical equipment inside the room. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He is to appear in court on the 26th of May.

Drug Charges

24 year-old Katrina Holkko of 179 Biggings Avenue was arrested on the 16th of April at 12:20 pm at the city police station on an outstanding warrant and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She was the third person charged as a result of a search warrant conducted by city police on the 14th of April at 179 Biggings Avenue. (Earlier release - On the 14th of April at approximately 11:50 am officers from the CORE (street team) Unit, Joint Forces Drug Unit and Patrol Services executed a search warrant at 179 Biggings Avenue. During the course of the search, officers located 26 grams of cannabis marijuana, 1.2 grams of cannabis resin, along with several digital scales and various drug paraphernalia. The estimated street value of the drugs seized was $540.00.
As a result, 22 year-old Adam Kinney and 30 year-old Glen Gregoire both of 179 Biggings Avenue were arrested at 11:55 am at the residence and each charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. They are to appear in court on the 26th of May.
Katrina Holkko is to appear in court on the 26th of May.

Theft Under $5,000

42 year-old Geoffrey Chamingsof #8-110 Wilding Avenue was arrested on the 16th of April at 2 pm at the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 16th of April just before 2 pm the accused attended at Kelly’s Grocers and stole some steaks valued at $28.32. The accused was apprehended by staff and held for police. He is to appear in court on the 26th of May.

City police investigated two bicycle and vehicle collisions yesterday:

The first collision occurred at 11:49 am at the intersection of Bruce Street and Wilson Street. It is alleged that the driver of a ford pickup that was travelling on Wilson Street, stopped at the stop sign at Bruce Street and attempted to turn onto Bruce Street when his truck struck a bicyclist that was travelling northbound on Bruce Street. The bicyclist was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
As a result, the 51 year-old male driver of the pickup, Robert Hooey of 131 Case Road was charged with one count of fail to yield to traffic on through highway.
The bicyclist, 35 year-old Steven Folgora of 152 Trelawne Avenue was also charged with one count of fail to drive bicycle near right hand side of roadway.

The second collision occurred at the intersection of Hudson Street and Queen Street West at 3:44 pm. It is alleged that one female and one male bicyclist, ages 8 and 9, were travelling westbound on the sidewalk of Queen Street West. One bicyclist stopped at the intersection of Hudson Street and one was struck by a northbound truck travelling on Hudson Street that had just stopped at the stop sign and was attempting to make turn onto Queen Street West. The truck was being operated by a 32 year-old male.
The second cyclist, the 8 year-old boy, was transported to hospital by ambulance for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic Services are continuing to investigate this collision and are requesting the public’s assistance in the investigation. If anyone has any information or may have witnesses this collision, they are asked to contact city police at 949-6300, Ext. 295.

The following break and enters were reported yesterday and overnight:

1) A cottage on Sunnyside Beach Road was entered sometime overnight on the 15th-16th of April. The cottage was ransacked and a Plasma television was reported stolen.

2) A residence on Pointe Des Chenes Crescent was entered sometime over the week. It is not known at this what was stolen.

3) The Root River Golf Club Pro Shop was entered at around 3 am overnight. The alarm was activated and officers attended, searched the area, but were unable locate the suspect/s at the time. It is unknown if anything was taken.

Thefts reported yesterday:

1) A bicycle was stolen from the Duke of Windsor Store on Queen Street East yesterday around 3:11pm. A male suspect described as around 18 years of age, skinny, short dark hair and wearing a blue jacket stole the bike and left with another shorter male that was on a bike. The two were last seen travelling south on Brock Street. Officers attended, but were unable to locate the males. The bicycle was described as a Hard Rock mountain bike, beige in colour.

2) A bicycle was stolen from a residence on Coulson Avenue on the 16th of April. It was a brand new 21 speed Unisex Fram Supercycle, silver in colour, with 24 inch tires.

3) A stereo was stolen out of a vehicle parked at a residence on Allen’s Side Road sometime overnight on the 15th-16th of April.

4) There was an attempt theft of a van from a residence in the 1000 block of Second Line West that occurred on the 16th of April.

Susicious Fire

City police and Fire Services attended to a suspicious trailer fire at 12:58 am this morning.
The 4 x 8 utility trailer, that was parked at the rear of 918 Queen Street East, was destroyed.

The investigation is continuing.
