NIECE STEALS FROM ELDERLY AUNT
On January 31, 2003 at 11:27 am, a 77-year-old female contacted the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service to report the theft and fraud of a credit card.

She advised that between the November 12, 2002 and the January 1, 2003, she was in the hospital. Her niece, a 26-year-old female from Cathcart Street was taking care of her apartment, picking up the mail and watering the plants.

Upon returning to her apartment the victim received her Visa bill, which showed charges of over $3,000 during the dates of which she was in the hospital. The victim advised that her daughter had left the card at the apartment in a hidden place.

The card was still in that place. The victim notified Visa about the unauthorized charges, and has since cancelled the card.

Detectives from the Investigation Services Section of the Fraud Unit began an investigation into the matter and on yesterday at 2:00 pm arrested and charged the 26-year-old niece with Theft under $5,000.00, False Pretenses and Fraud under $5,000.00. She will appear in court on May 26th.


DRUG BUST
On April 16th at 3:04 pm, police officers from the Joint Forces Operation Drug Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant on a residence located on Wellington Street East.

Richard Raymo, age 21 of 151 Wellington St. East and another 20-year-old male were at residence at this time. Police located 1 marihuana cigarette and 5.9 grams of cannabis marihuana in a basement bedroom belonging to Richard Raymo.

A police records check revealed that he was on probation at the time of the offence. Police officers arrested and charged him with Possession of a Controlled Drug, Cannabis Marihuana, and Breach of Probation. Total value of drugs seized $123.00. Raymo will appear in court on May 26th. The other male was not charged.


SHE ASSAULTED EX-HUSBAND
On Wednesday, April 16 2003, the accused, a 28-year-old female, attended her ex-husband?s residence on Lennox Avenue.

After a brief verbal argument, the accused was asked to leave the residence, as she walked past the 33-year-old victim, she punched him once, striking him in the mouth causing a minor injury.

At 5:38 pm, police officers arrested and charged the female with Assault. She will appear in court on May 26th.


ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING
Yesterday at 5:30 pm, the accused Sean Seguin, age 24 of 320 Gilles Street, went to the Station Mall LCBO and allegedly removed a 1.75 L bottle of Bacardi Rum from the store and left without paying for it.

He was stopped outside the store by the Laura Secord entrance, arrested by Mall Security and held for police. At 5:45 pm patrol officers arrested and charged Seguin with Theft under $5,000.00. He will appear in court on May 26th.


SUICIDE ATTEMPTED
Yesterday at 8:47 pm, patrol officers received information that a 22-year-old female from MacDonald Avenuue was threatening suicide. At 9:24 pm, patrol officers were outside of a residence on Dacey Road where they located the victim.

They learned that she had a self-inflicted laceration to her left wrist from earlier in the day. Fearing for her safety, officers apprehended her under the authority of the Mental Health Act and she taken to the hospital for treatment.


DOMESTIC DISPUTE
In the early morning hours today, patrol officers were called to an apartment complex in the city?s east end where a male and female were having a domestic dispute.

At 3:25 am, officers arrived at the apartment and spoke to the parties involved. Officers learned that a 19-year-old female and her 20-year-old boy friend had an argument that resulted in the female kicking the victim in the face and leg. Police arrested and charged the female with Assault. She will appear in court on May 26th.


BREAK & ENTER
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated one break and enter yesterday to a garage at a home on Arbor Drive. Thieves stole various items. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers.
