Male Arrested for Pornography Possession facing further Charges in Relation to Drug Possession

Male Arrested at Canada Customs facing Pornography Charges: On April 7, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Technological Crime Unit were called to assist Canada Customs and Immigration with a male that they had stopped at the border checkpoint on Huron Street that was allegedly found in possession of child pornography. As a result of the investigation and upon discovering evidence of child pornography found on a laptop inside the accused male’s vehicle, officers arrested him. The accused, 69 year-old Gene Eplett, of San Francisco, California was charged with one count of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Importing Child Pornography. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Update: As a result of further investigation and a search of the accused male’s vehicle, the accused, 69 year-old Gene Eplett, of San Francisco, California was arrested at the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre yesterday morning and was further charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that officers also located 36 grams of marijuana inside his vehicle. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.


Male Arrested for Threatening
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 55 year-old Peter Mattalo of 55 Johnson Avenue on the 13th of April at 12:22 pm at his residence and charged him with one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 12th of April the accused made death threats towards a person known to him and also the victim’s family members. At the time of the incident the accused was on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good.

Four Domestic Related Arrests
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested an 18 year-old female at 7:30 am on the 13the of April and charged her with two counts of mischief, one count of resist or obstruct peace officer and one count of intoxicated in a public place. It is alleged that the accused attended at the residence of her ex-boyfriend on the evening of the 12th of April. During the course of the night, the accused and the victim got into a verbal argument and the accused was told to leave. She returned a short time later and lit the recycling boxes on fire in the victim’s yard. Officers responding to the call located the accused in the area in an intoxicated state, yelling and swearing. Officers attempted to arrest her and she was uncooperative and violent towards them. Further, the accused damaged the police cruiser antenna and spat all over the inside of the cruiser.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 51 year-old male at 10 am yesterday morning at his residence and charged him with one count of criminal harassment, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused has criminally harassed his ex-girlfriend for the past several months by continuously calling her, threatening her, following her and attending at her residence. The accused had been being previously warned by police to leave her alone and was on probation conditions to keep the peace and be good.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 39 year-old male at 11:13 pm last night and charged him with one count of assault, one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling and four counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 13th of April the accused attended and entered the residence of his ex-girlfriend without permission. The victim asked the accused to leave, he refusued and then assaulted her. At the time of the incident the accused was on a probation order with conditions that he remain away from the victim’s residence that he not communicate, harass, molest, annoy or physically interfere with her.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 20 year-old male on the 13th of April at 4:55 pm and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 13th of April the accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend while in the downtown area.

Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
Officers arrested 23 year-old Nina Kent of Old Mill Road Heyden, Ontario on the 13th of April at the police station on an outstanding warrant. She has been charged with one count of fail to appear for fingerprints and is to attend court on the 16th of May.

Break and Enter Reports
• A residence on Wilding Avenue was entered yesterday. Cash and a number of items were reported stolen.
• A residence in the 200 Block of Goulais Avenue was entered on Wednesday afternoon. Nothing has been reported stolen at this time.
• A garage on Broad Street was entered sometime during the day yesterday. A 2008 Honda CRF 250R dirt bike, red in colour, was stolen. The front plate has a Rock Star sticker on it.

Mischief/Theft Reports
• A red Supercycle Burner Mountain bike was stolen on Market Street.
• A licence plate was stolen from a vehicle on Pine Street.
• A number of vehicles were broken into in the 100 lock of Church Street and the downtown area overnight on the 12th-13th of April. Vehicles were also entered on Frontenac Street and Patrick Street. Several windows were reported smashed and a number of items were stolen, some including: a camera, change, an iPod and charger and a cell phone.
