Syringe used in robbery incidents. Two face charges

It is alleged that one of the accused threatened a store employee with a needle and then took cash and other merchandise

On March 5, 2018, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Break and Enter Unit arrested 34-year old William McDonald of Wallace Terrace for robbery and 34-year-old Rosemary Pheasant of Hughes Street for possession of stolen property.

It is alleged that on Feb. 21, 2018, Mr. McDonald attended a business in the 600 block of Wellington Street where he entered with a syringe in his hand. The accused threatened the employee with the needle and then took cash and other merchandise from the store before leaving. A short time later, Rosemary Pheasant was found to be in possession of items that had been taken during this robbery.

Later on the same day, (it is alleged that) Mr. McDonald attended a business in the 200 block of Bay Street where he selected just under $100 worth of merchandise and attempted to leave without paying. When the accused was approached by a staff member, he pulled a syringe out and threatened the staff member with it before fleeing the area.

Officers located Mr. McDonald and Ms. Pheasant on March 5, 2018 and they were taken into custody. Ms. Pheasant has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property. She will appear in court on April 9, 2018. Mr. McDonald has been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of wearing a disguise with intent, and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held for bail court.
