Suspect facing assault and drug charges after refusing to leave hotel: police

Officers went to a local hotel after being told a person wouldn't check out of their room

A suspect is facing multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, after Sault Police say they refused to check out of a local hotel.

When officers arrived at the scene at around 5:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day, they say the accused tried to slam the door. 

“When officers were able to enter the room, the accused began flailing their arms and kicking at officers,” police alleged in a news release.

While officers gained physical control of the accused, they continued to pull away.

Police say many items in the room were damaged and the accused was in possession of about one gram of suspected methamphetamine and various drug paraphernalia.

Nisha Nemeth, 33, has been charged with:

  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
