SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING AND FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

On the 28th of March 2009 at 6:30 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a call in regards to a male with a firearm at a residence in the 400 block of Korah Road in the city of Sault Ste. Marie. On arrival at the scene, police located an adult male person suffering from a single gun shot wound. The victim is currently in hospital.

On the same date at 6:39 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Queen Street West near Huron Street. An east bound pick up truck struck the corner of the Studio 10 night club at a high rate of speed. The male adult driver of the pick up truck has succumbed to his injuries.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service believes that both incidents are related. A post mortem examination has been scheduled and will take place in Sudbury on Monday, March 30th 2009. The identity of the deceased is being withheld by police pending the notification of next of kin.

There are currently several officers assigned to this investigation. It is anticipated that Queen Street West will be closed to traffic for the next several hours. Officers from the Forensic Identification section and the Centre of Forensic Sciences are expected to be at the Korah Road scene for most of Sunday.
