The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service currently investigating another serious motor vehicle collision and would like to advise the public that Queen Street East is closed from Simpson Street to Leo Avenue.  At approximately 14:04 hours officers responded to a vehicle that accelerated and struck a hydro pole at Leo Ave. and Queen Street East.  The vehicle snapped the pole in two, hydro wires were down and live.  A male driver was located unconscious in the vehicle.  At this time a medical cause for the accident is being investigated.  The driver has been identified as a 60 year old resident of Sault Ste. Marie and is currently in critical condition.  Traffic Services is continuing the investigation.  PUC and City Board of Works have been called out and are assisting.  The public is advised to avoid the area.

Update to collision with pedestrian and City Transit bus from December 8th at Albert Street East and Bruce Street.

Officers from Traffic Services have charged 24 year old Courtney Russell of 310-250 Albert Street East under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of pedestrian disobey don’t walk signal.

Arrests

20 year old Thomas Agawa of no fixed address was arrested just before 8 pm last night and charged with one count of breach of probation, one count of breach of a recognizance and one count of assault police.  Officers attended at a local motel on Great Northern Road to remove the accused. When officers arrived they found the accused to be intoxicated.  He was on bail conditions not to consume alcohol and on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good.   Upon arrest the accused spit in the face of one of the officers. He will appear in WASH court on December 9th.

On the 9th of December at 01:30 hours officers attended at a downtown address and arrested a 42-year old male and charged him with two counts of assault and two counts of breach of probation.  It is alleged that on the 7th of December the accused assaulted his common law spouse by punching her in the face.  Furthermore on the 8th of December the accused assaulted the victim by hitting her with a phone.  At the time of the offences the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.  The victim did not require medical treatment for either of the assaults.  The male will appear in WASH court on December 9th.

Property Related Offences

A home in the 100 block of Adeline Avenue was entered between 2 pm and 8 pm.  Items taken include a Dell Inspiron laptop, an X-box with a Kinect and 3 gold rings.

A vehicle on Valhalla Place was entered between 1 am and 12 noon on the 8th of December.  A small amount of cash was taken.

RIDE

The RIDE program was out last night.  Officers checked 443 vehicles, 5 roadside tests were administered, one 3 day suspension was issued, one vehicle was towed and 5 tickets were issued.
