A person was charged with stunt driving on Black Road on April 16, 2024.

A 26-year-old was charged with stunt driving today after police clocked a Jeep on Black Road going 108 km/h.

Today’s traffic stop is just the latest in a recent string of stunt driving charges laid by Sault Police.

The driver — who was not identified by police because the charge was laid under The Highway Traffic Act — is facing an automatic 30-day driver’s licence suspension and had their vehicle towed and impounded for 14 days, at their expense.

The driver is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court, where penalties could include a fine of up to $10,000, a mandatory driver’s licence suspension of 1 to 3 years, and/or a custodial jail sentence not exceeding 6 months.

If found guilty, the driver will also face increased costs for high-risk insurance, six (6) demerit points, and must attend a mandatory driver improvement course.

“Driving is a privilege and violating the law can result in you losing that privilege,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “Sault Police hope this incident will raise awareness of the potential dangers and personal and financial consequences of stunt driving.”
