A driver has been charged with stunt driving after being stopped on Black Road.

A 30-year-old driver is facing a stunt-driving charge after Sault Police stopped a vehicle on Black Road today.

Officers with the Patrol Services Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service say the vehicle was clocked 119 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

The driver has been charged with stunt driving and is facing an automatic 30-day Ontario Driver’s Licence suspension. The vehicle was also towed at the owner's expense and will be impounded for 14 days.

Police did not release the name of the driver because the charges fall under the Highway Traffic Act, not the Criminal Code.

Court-imposed penalties for stunt driving may include a fine between $2,000 and $10,000, a mandatory driver’s licence suspension of 1 to 3 years, and/or a custodial jail sentence not exceeding six months.

If found guilty, the driver will also face increased costs for high-risk insurance, six (6) demerit points, and must attend a mandatory driver improvement course.
