A Great Northern Road traffic stop lead to numerous drug and weapons charges after officers seized suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine, as well as a sawed-off shotgun and a pellet gun.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that at the time of his arrest early Wednesday morning, the accused was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

On June 22, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 43-year-old William Ross with weapon and drug offences.

Around 4 a.m., officers observed a vehicle parked at a business in the 800 block of Great Northern Road. Officers conducted a traffic stop. Officers approached the vehicle and the lone occupant identified as the accused. Officers discovered the accused was wanted for breach of probation and he was arrested on the strength of the warrant.

A subsequent search found the accused to be in possession of a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, a pellet gun, approximately 13.95 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, approximately 3.95 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl, approximately 7.56 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, and several bank cards and identification cards which were determined to have been stolen. The estimated street value of the narcotics seized is $4,100.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x3
    •    Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition x2
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm
    •    Possession of a prohibited weapon
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
    •    Carrying a concealed weapon
    •    Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime x9
    •    Fail to comply with probation order x4
    •    Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to an order x6

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing, and subsequently remanded into custody with a scheduled court date of July 7, 2022.
