Sault man charged with cashing $900 worth of stolen cheques

Police say the cheques were stolen out of a vehicle in August 2018

On March 12, 2019 officers with the Break and Enter and Crime Suppression Units arrested 48-year-old Wayne Hewitt of Boston Avenue with fraud under $5,000.

It’s alleged in August 2018, the accused stole a cheque book out of a vehicle. It’s further alleged between Nov. 15 and 16, 2018 he cashed stolen cheques totaling approximately $900.

The accused was subject to an outstanding warrant and was observed in the downtown area by police. He was taken into custody and is charged with one count of fraud under $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of uttering a forged document, one count of breach of probation.

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2019.
