Arrests/Charged Persons:
On the 6th of July, 2012 City Police arrested an 18 yr old male for domestic assault. The male allegedly grabbed the female victim by the arm then pushed her into a wall. He will attend bail court on the 9th of July, 2012 at 10am.
On the 6th of July, 2012 while in the downtown area, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Street Team arrested a 35yr old male who was wanted for breaching two conditions of his probation, in regards to a domestic related incident. The male had associated and communicated with the female victim, and failed to keep the peace and be of good behavior. Search of the accused lead to a further charge of being in possession of a controlled substance. He will attend bail court on the 9th of July, 2012 at 10am.
On the 6th of July, 2012 while in the area of Maple St, City Police arrested 58 yr old Melvin Wemigwans on an outstanding warrant. On the 29th of June, 2012 the accused had failed to attend the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center to complete his intermittent sentence and had been deemed to be unlawfully at large. Webigwans has been returned to the ATRC.
On the 7th of July, 2012 City Police arrested a 39 yr old male for two counts of domestic assault, and one count of uttering threats. It’s alleged that the offences took place between April 01 and June 30, 2012. He will attend bail court on the 9th of July, 2012 at 10am.
On the 7th of July , 2012 while in the downtown area City Police arrested 42yr old Jerry Newman for break and enter with intent to commit a criminal offence, and possession of stolen property. Newman was found to be in possession of 2 stolen laptops. Through investigation police were able to link Newman to a break and enter of a business in the downtown area that had occurred overnight.
