Police tape off crime scene at church parking lot (4 photos)

Police have yet to disclose the nature of incident

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has cordoned off an entire church parking lot on Caledon Street.

SooToday observed police tape stretching across the length of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Friday morning.

An officer was also seen going house to house, knocking on doors along Caledon Street.

Social media posts suggest that Sault Ste. Marie Police Service established a crime scene at the church parking lot as early as Thursday evening.

Police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit has confirmed with SooToday that members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently investigating an incident in the central part of the city.

"We are in the early stages of this investigation and officers remain in the area," Louttit said via email.

Police say further details will be released as they become available.
