Officers find pellet handgun, rifle during traffic stop

Accused was pulled over when police spotted an expired license plate

On April 22, 2019, officers with the Patrol Services division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Serviced arrested 36-year-old Gheorghe Bratu of Allen Street for possession of a weapon contrary to an order. 

On April 21, 2019 officers observed a vehicle with an expired license plate. The passenger of the vehicle fled the area before police could conduct a traffic stop.

Officers spoke with the driver, and saw a black pellet handgun and a rifle behind the seat. 

On April 22, 2019 the accused was in police custody on outstanding warrants and was told of additional charges. He is charged with one count of possession of a weapon contrary to an order, two counts of breach of probation and one count of unlawfully at large. He was held for bail court.
