The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating any witnesses to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Black Rd and McNabb St. The collision occurred on Thursday September 25th at approx. 5:00 pm and involved a brown Chevy Astro van and a blue Hyundai Accent. Male Arrested with Stolen Property for Lyons Tim-br Mart:

On the 28th of September at approximately 3 am City police received a call regarding a suspicious male that was observed by a witness in the compound area of Lyon’s Tim-br Mart throwing items out towards the underpass on Wellington Street West. When police arrived they located three rolls of weather guard membrane just outside the compound wall near the railway tracks adjacent to Carmen’s Way. The suspect could not be located at that time. A short while later, officers still in the area investigating the incident, observed a Chev Suburban driving off of Conmee Avenue and down the tracks towards the area of the stolen stashed property. The male was then observed by police loading up the property inside the truck. Officers arrested the male and when they ran a check on the Suburban, they learned that it had been stolen overnight from a residence on Charles Street.
As a result, 57 year-old James Marini of 320 Gillies was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of theft under $5,000.00.

Male Arrested for Criminal Harassment:

A 36 year-old male was arrested on the 27th of September at around 9:25 pm and charged with two counts of criminal harassment. It is alleged that for the past two years he has called a female known to him on numerous occasions, attended outside her residence in attempts to watch her and has continuously attempted to engage in a relationship with the victim, who did not wish to have anything to with him.

Domestic Assault:

A 24 year-old male was arrested on the 26th of September just before 8 am and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 26th of September the accused got into a verbal argument with his common law spouse at their residence and assaulted her by grabbing her, dragging her and throwing her to the floor. He is to appear in court on the 29th of October.

Impaired Drivers Arrested:

1) 32 year-old Gregory Robinson of #1-219 Meadow Park Crescent was arrested on the 27th of September at 2:17 am in the parking lot of a local bar after police observed his vehicle back into another vehicle that was parked unattended in the lot. It is alleged that when police went to check the accused, he got out and staggered towards the cruiser. At the time he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested. When he was brought to the police station for a breathalyzer, he refused to provide a sample. As a result he was charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of fail to provide a breath sample. He is to appear in court on the 27th of October.

2) 22 year-old Christopher Knill of 1964 Third Line West was arrested on the 27th of September at 3:26 am on Great Northern Road and charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. City police received a call around 3:10 am regarding a possible impaired driver in the drive through area of a local restaurant. When police arrived and checked the male, who was still inside his vehicle in the parking lot, it is alleged that he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The accused later failed the breathalyzer test at the station. He is to appear in court on the 27th of October.

Shoplifters Arrested:

1) 34 year-old Patricia Mackinnon of #11-2 Manitou Drive was arrested on the 27th of September at 2:45 pm at Wal-Mart on Great Northern Road and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 27th of September around 2 pm the accused attended at the store and stole some items, was apprehended by store security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 27th of October.

2) City police are currently investigating a robbery at the Mr. Submarine on Trunk Road that occurred on Saturday the 27th of September around 11:08 pm. A lone male entered the store just after 11 pm wearing a black hoodie and a grey cloth covering his face. The male demanded cash from the two clerks and advised them that he had a gun. The male fled on foot in an eastbound direction with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police attended and searched the area with negative results. The employees were not physically injured. No weapon was produced. The male was described as being approximately 5’7” brown hair, stocky build wearing a black hoodie and a grey cloth covering his face.

Property Crimes Over the Weekend:

Mischief Reports:

- Youths set a mattress and tire on fire in the back alleyway in the 200 block of Albert Street West. The two male suspects were observed at the fire. They were both wearing white t-shirts and described as 15-17 years of age. One male was approximately 5’5”, shoulder length hair, stocky build, wearing a ball cap and jeans. Officers checked the area with negative results.
- The city bus shelter on Northern Avenue near Willow Street had the glass smashed out of it.
- A shovel was thrown through a window of a grader parked in the 800 block of Old Goulais Bay Road.
- Numerous vehicles were damaged or spray painted in the East end overnight on Saturday the 27th of September
- A mirror was broken off a vehicle parked on Golf Range Crescent.
- Tires were slashed on a vehicles parked on Shannon Road.
- Pino’s IGA reported the building and a trailer in the lot spray painted.
- Mio’s Furniture Fashion reported their building, vehicles and trailers in the lot spray painted.
- Vehicles parked on Lewis Road, Shannon Road, Bowker Street and Country Club Place were spray painted.
- Superior Dodge Chrysler reported spray painting damage as well.

Thefts:

- Vehicles were entered on Francis Street, Goulais Avenue in the Algoma University Lot, Bloor Street West, and Trunk Road. Items reported stolen were a Laptop, purses, Panasonic stereo equipment, and an iPod
- Lawn ornaments were stolen from yards on Chartwell Drive and Lewis Road.
- A bike was stolen from Lorna Drive.
